Let me start by saying I’ve been a huge fan of Arduino for years. I’ve used their products for over five years and have always been impressed by their ecosystem and how easily it could be leveraged to solve real-world problems. I even bought the Portenta partly as a way to support Arduino for all the value I’ve gotten from them over the years. That being said — the Portenta is an absolute piece of junk. The documentation is practically nonexistent, especially when it comes to the Arduino PLC IDE. Activating the Portenta is a complete nightmare. I’ve activated three of them, and unbelievably, each one activated differently. On one device, I got it working (after about a full day of trying), but I didn’t like its behavior and decided to start fresh using the exact same procedure. Now, that same unit refuses to even enter the pre-activation state. Another day or two of trying random things just to get it back online — ridiculous. And the activation keys? What a mess. I paid the $18 fee they charge to get a new activation code. In the past, I received the email with the code within 10 minutes. This time, after placing two separate orders under two different emails, I’ve waited 24–48 hours and received absolutely nothing. Of course, there’s no phone number, no chat support, and no response to emails. It’s like shouting into the void. At this point, I’d love to throw my hands up and walk away, but I’m three months into a work project that depends on this thing. Backtracking now would cause huge delays. So yes — I’m stuck. If you have any sense, don’t put yourself in the same position. DON’T BUY!!!
