and this author does it wonderfully. However
A first for Ben Shapiro in this genre in a time when this genre is slammed with competition for a unique scenario. This book is a revolving cascade of characters, which predictably end up tying together a la Crash. Fair enough, and this author does it wonderfully. However, the reaches taken with each situation is cheaply manufactured from current events and embellished considerably. The 4 stars reflects the quality of the stories, the development of characters and scenarios, the obvious intelligence and mastery of language and writing that Ben Shapiro commands. The lost star is because it was a poor coming together of each party leading to the inevitable cliff hanger with little closure. But hey, my feelings don't matter and that's fine. I'll still read any follow-ups he has! Side note: the moral, religious, and well spoken Ben Shapiro could certainly benefit from NOT using profane language in his books, but does not refrain in this book, sadly. The wife and I both tired of reading the language.

Realistic, yet Exciting Story
I really enjoyed the story line of this book and look forward to a sequel. The character development was terrific and I really identified with the protagonists, caring about what happened to them. I did, however, question some of the interactions between major characters that were in conflict when I didn't think they should have been ( I don't want to give any spoilers, but a couple of choices that characters made had me scratching my head). This book is a real page turner.

That would be fine, but a more explosive ending on the next ...
Interestingly, the author links events past and present to the plot. It is a stark reminder that the boogey man isn't in Russia, he's right here in Silicon Valley. Not in Moscow, but in DC. Diversion is the key to tyranny. Think Adolf and Josef. The ending suggests the author's hopefulness or openness to a follow-up novel. That would be fine, but a more explosive ending on the next one would complete the saga. Good job, Ben!

Enjoyable enough to not suck
It's a quick read, maybe a little too quick. The pace felt rushed and some of the scenarios are too unlikely and scream "well that's convenient!" The untouched ambassador's briefcase being an example. I do think rushed pace though is intentional for a younger, less attention spanned audience. I mean for a nonfiction writer, it isn't crap and I did enjoy reading it which should ultimately be the goal of an author. If he sequels this or tries a whole new story/genre I would buy it. I would imagine as he gets more experience in fiction, his work will improve. Or it won't, what the heck do I know?

Ben Shapiro writes a thriller that is hard to put down. I can only hope our society does not become anything like this, and with the two Presidential hopefuls - Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton - how close is our society going to become plagued like the fictional United States of Ben Shapiro's book? With maybe two more hyper-partisan Democrats in a row, you can bet your health care mandated fine that it will be a reality! Written for a younger audience, Ben Shapiro may want to suggest, or he himself may try, a book that is less obviously politicized and a more fictionalized story that supports conservative views. The liberals have mastered the art - will anyone on the right do the same?

Depressing, and written dry. In a good way.
I can understand the two star reviews, but lets be real. Book would have came off weird filled with colorful language and action-style scripture. The tone of the book reflects the plot points, because its honestly very True feeling and Depressing. It would take away from it, if it tried to mask dead children under beautiful metaphors and snowflake references. definitely isn't a happy book. However, the book stems from things happening in america today; and slowly escalades to, well. It escaldes quite a bit. Again, by the end of the book, i appreciated the style of writing because if it was written very different it would have taken away the feeling of "holy cow this is actually beleivable". Thus, 5 stars. Depressing. Sequel?

I started to listen to Ben Shapiro's pod cast a few months ago and have grown to really respect his opinions. I pre ordered this book and couldn't wait to read it. I was not disappointed. While not up there quite yet with Tom Clancy and other political fiction writers, this was truly a wonderful book. The characters were well developed, the pace was fast and there were a few twists I didn't see coming. The content was current for today's world. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good political thriller. I'm looking forward to his next book.

The worst book I've read all year
The USA is under attack — terrorist threats, racial tensions rising, borders are threatened — and President Prescot has no interest in fixing the divided country. The writing is just awful, the characters are bland, the dialogue is stilted, and the themes are hamfisted.

Great!
I personally really enjoyed this book, it's more real and brutal than other books like to be. It shows how multiple seemingly not so related events can all connect at a certain point.
