Behind the scenes stories, loads of “aha!” moments sliced up into sections you can sit and devour all day, or bite-size morsels you can snack on, savour and wonder. If you’re into the movies, or even if you’ve ever seen a movie, you need this book in your life. If you’re the kind of person that can recite lines and re-enact scenes from iconic film and TV, then boy are you in for a real treat. Buy it.

All I can say is "WOW". Howard and Marshall you have managed to create an absolutely amazing tour de force through the ages and stages of our industry. Its an absolutely beautiful looking book, and at first flick some amazing stories from the best in the business, its definitely going to give me inspiration and insight as I start on my next project, congratulations on your success with it!!! Love this book, big heavy coffee table monster. It's full of great interviews with the "Masters of make up effects" and packed with fantastic photos of the creations and their creators. If you're interested in Special make up effects, or film making generally then this is a great book to have.

I have to say I don’t write a lot of reviews normally, but after receiving this book yesterday I can’t put it down. It’s filled with amazing pictures and history of special make up effects from all the true masters. If you are a fan of special effects make up it’s an absolute must.

A stunning in-depth look into the past 100 years of sfx make up from the legends of the past to todays legends. Book truly is a a must have for all sfx fans and I hope to see a volume 2 in the near future

After reading really great reviews about this book I eagerly snapped it up in anticipation. However when I was able to really browse the book in person I came away feeling it was a bit of a let down.Photos way too small and major Horror movies overlooked in terms of photographic content-two small photos when a full page dramatic blow up would have been amazing would have made all the difference-.basically if I had been able to browse the book beforehand it is unlikely I would have decided purchased it. Let down for me-sorry.

Sicuramente bello da vedere e interessante per l'approccio al make up, soprattutto prostetico, nel corso degli anni, un volume massiccio, ben raccontato, ben sviluppato come progetto grafico e narrativo. Anche per chi ama il cinema solo da spettatore, ma soprattutto per tutti gli effettisti e appassionati della storia degli special fx. Bello!

C’est un cadeau donc je ne l’ai pas vraiment lu, mais le livre est beau et parait qualitatif !

This book has a lot of information about many different makeup effect artists. Each artist gets a few pages of introduction and some pictures of their work. It doesn't really go into depth about how they necessarily did their work, but it is more of an introduction to different artists and their work.
