Must-Have Book
I recently gave in to the inevitable and upgraded from Photoshop Elements (PSE) to Photoshop CC (cloud version). I learned Elements using Scott Kelby's then-current book and have used his books to learn each subsequent PSE release. If you're just starting with Photoshop, Scott's books are a great way to learn. When upgrading from prior PSE releases, I've used Scott's books as not just a way to learn new features, but as a complete refresher course on everything Photoshop can do. (That said, the one improvement I can suggest is a summary or index of new features.) I especially like the way Scott not just explains each feature, but tells the reader how HE uses it (or doesn't use it, but rather uses some other feature or technique instead). He also does a great job of teach workflow: which Photoshop tools to use in what sequence; and you get to practice what he's showing you using the exact same images he's using in the book (Scott provides link to download site). Scott has the gift of being a really good teacher, I love all his books, will buy more in the future, gladly recommend to others.

Disappointed. Not his usual quality.
I love Kelby’s writing style but I’m disappointed with the content of this book. I expected a book that explained how to do detailed photo retouching in Photoshop.Instead, he spends 3/4 of the book talking about Camera Raw (Lightroom’s develop module engine) which is redundant to the Lightroom book and doesn’t really talk about Photoshop retouching at all.He spends maybe 15% of the book showing how to do simple tricks made obvious by the menu (create HDR images, etc.).And, despite saying Bridge is antiqued and shouldn’t be used, he uses it for all of his examples, instead of Lightroom.I needed a Photoshop book and he didn’t really give me one.

Classic. Which is only good if this is your first Kelby book.
Scott Kelby is the man. I have read maybe 5 books of his?... Idk, lost count. He's never let me down.... which is why I was surprised to find such basic, basic stuff here. Seriously- "layers, selections & compositing" was a huge disappointment. Click & experiment and you'll learn just as much. I'm sure for the ultra new user there's a surprise in here, I just couldn't find it.I'm still giving him 3 stars out of loyalty- I haven't read the RAW section. I'm really counting on his promise to deliver hidden CC secrets. But I've shot RAW exclusively for years now... and so help me, if he just tells us what each slider does, I'm changing the title of this to "the book that breaks all the rules: like the one about being informative" and docking his last 2 stars. To be fair, he gets a star for saying desat skin tone is everywhere ( tho I have no use for it) and **voila!** Time's 2017 "Person of the Year" issue uses desat skin on every single Silence Breaker.Oh, and dude. The cover models' skin looks plastic. Not the look you were going for, surely?

Taught Long Time PS User Learned New Stuff
I'm an advanced amateur and have used Photoshop from very early days. I've learned a lot from this book. For example, one frequent problem in landscape photography is the brightness range from the sky to the land. I just lived with this issue, but Kelby suggests using the graduated filer which acts like a neutral density gradient filter. One problem of Photoshop is that there are many features that you just have to know about, that the menu system does not show them in obvious ways. This book doesn't show you them all (see Adobe's reference manual), but it shows you how to do lots of useful things efficiently. For a better understanding, take a look at the Table of Contents here on the Amazon web page.

Love Scott's Books
I first purchased a Scott Kelby book around 1999. Been used PS since v4. I have learned most everything that I know from Mr. Kelby. I am a 30 yr professional photographer and have taught numerous workshops (collegiate level and High School art Teachers) and I usually taught right out of his material. I hadn't purchased the newest and greatest for a couple years and thought that perhaps I am not leveraging all that could from PS CC...I have not been disappointed.

Not enough about the fundamentals of PS, too much content about Adobe Camera Raw.
I should have read the reviews first. I have this author's Lightroom book, so I thought this would be a great book as well. Well...this was a little disappointing. A large portion of the book was about editing photos in Adobe Camera Raw. I already use Lightroom, so all of that information was just review/unnecessary. I wanted a book about PHOTOSHOP, NOT ACR or Lightroom. I'm fairly proficient with Lightroom, but know almost nothing about Photoshop. I was hoping this book would start with the basics - e.g. what the heck layers are, white layers, black layers, flattening layers, or all this stuff I hear about masking, etc. This book is thinner and has less content than my Lightroom book by him as well. For now I guess I'll just learn about PS from youtube tutorials, Creative Live, and library books. Maybe this book will come in handy at some point, will see...

A Photoshop book truly relevant to photographers
I am a part-time pro photographer and have been using Scott's Photoshop books since he began writing them (together with the encyclopedic books by Martin Evening). Some people don't like his style but what is relevant to me is the high quality of information he offers. Other commenters complain that a large part of the book is dedicated to Camera Raw but Scott years ago began (rightfully) stressing the fact that most of the picture-wide processing should be done in Camera Raw before moving to Photoshop for selective adjustments. For people who agree on this image processing strategy the book is very valuable. The 4 stars are due to the microscopic size of text.

Extreme disappointment
I bought this bough because I liked how the author included a section about quick color correction and how to print using ICC profiles in previous versions of his other Photoshop books. He wrote absolutely zero about this I bough the book to help me in these two areas. It's a shame he left left these two sections out of his book. Really disappointed and I must echo the disappointment of other one star reviewers in that this book is this book is mostly about Camera Raw. Shooting raw was a big deal in 2003/04. It's such a shame that this author keeps rewriting the same old sections and has let go of some of the best tips for Photoshop.

Great book by an excellent author!
I am a fan of Scot Kelby's books, they are great to follow or to use when in trouble. I bought this soon after the release of Photoshop CC 2017 version, which seemed to have released lots of modified approaches to editing issues that I used a lot. I have found this book very useful indeed - for me it's much better that the myriad of videos available online. I've used Scot Kelby's books before and find them great.

I recommend this book wholeheartedly
Once one gets used to Scott Kelby's quirky style, this is a very informative book and I wouldn't be without it. I shoot in RAW 99% of the time so his tendency to concentrate on techniques using the raw converter suits me very well although I can understand why those who usually shoot jpegs feel short changed. With that caveat, I recommend this book wholeheartedly.

If your new to Photoshop, it's worth buying a couple of the earlier versions.
First off let me say I'm not trying to sell more books for Mr Kelby. Having said that I would recommend anyone who is just getting started using Photoshop CC, to get hold of a least a couple of his earlier Photoshop books. I've been using Photoshop now for quite some time, I started with CS2 10 years ago and then upgraded to CS5. Now I'm using Photoshop CC and I love it. While I think this a great book and well worth buying, I'm finding that I keep having to refer back to the earlier books to remind myself of some of the basics. (however that could be because I'm old and forgetful!!) So definitely buy this book if your using Photoshop CC, but as I said make sure you have a couple of the earlier ones to help with the basics if your new to it.The one thing I don't like is that this came out in 2017 and the Camera Raw version is 9.7 where as the up to date version in CC is 12.4 so I'm sure we will be seeing a new edition soon.

One of the best books around
Excellent book in plain laguage which veers towards the very basic at times so excellent for total beginers but even the expert will find tips and hints that he has missed.

Easy too use book
Scott Kelby knows how to write and instruct, a great teacher. It is a 2017 edition which really makes no difference to learning PS CC most everything applies even after the 2020 upgrade. The nicest part of this book is you can skip around to the chapters and information you need.Everything is well layed out and presented in an easy format to read and understand.A great book that still works!
