The Bourne Ultimate Collection [Blu-ray] Review: Definitely the ultimate collection of Bourne movies. - Review of The Bourne Ultimate Collection [4K Ultra HD] [4K UHD] I caught this on sale during Prime Days, so it was more within my budget. I love the Bourne movies, and these don’t disappoint since they are in much higher definition than the couple that I have on hand already. This is a great set that includes all the movies in the collection. They’re great for building my movie library and those days when the weather makes the satellite go out. They are as pictured in the desertcart ad. Review: Four great movies and one not-so-good - I had seen the first three Bourne movies in the HD DVD era, so I wanted to replace those with 4K discs and also see the two newer movies. All five look and sound excellent in the 4K/UHD disc format. The first three movies are compelling and exciting as the story of Jason Bourne is revealed bit by bit, with lots of action and plot twists along the way. Then, "The Bourne Legacy" throws all of that away and is "just like the Jason Bourne movies" but comes up with a completely different plot and simply uses various names from the earlier movies while having no relation to them at all, that I could see. So, it was reasonably interesting on its own, with action and suspense, but does not fit into the series at all in my opinion. The fifth movie "Jason Bourne" (which also has Matt Damon in it, like the first three but not the fourth) fortunately goes right back to where "The Bourne Ultimatum" left off and completely ignores "Legacy". So, going back into the original story line, it was much more satisfying and enjoyable.

Four great movies and one not-so-good

Great deal for 4K / Blu-ray set
This was a really good deal where the discs more or less wound up being $3 a piece and they came with both Blu-ray and 4K discs. The sound in the movies was great through the home theater setup and I was just watching the Blu-ray version. There is an extra disc, a DVD I believe, that comes with the set also but in a paper sleeve. Everything else had its own case. Definitely enjoyable movies and a great price for the whole package! Non-stop action with the surround sound, bullets whizzing by, and engines revving up to go with it.

Nice all in one package
I have always wanted the Bourne series to own after watching the first one and when I saw this I knew I had to own it. It took a little while to receive, but that's okay considering the extra precautions we all have to take nowadays. I finally finished watching the last installment and I'm glad I got it. The packaging is nice with an booklet type insert into a carrier, and the booklet itself has individual sleeves that grip the dvd's securely. All the dvd's include provision for subtitles and other behind the scenes extras that are icing on the cake. I was happy with the quality that seemed to be standard with that kind of major studio produced and manufactured set of dvd's. All in all, a bargain price.

Very good series
I am not a fan of Matt Damon so I was surprised by this series. My son gave me number 3 and I liked it so I bought the series. Matt does a great job in these videos. Lots of action and a great story line with good actors throughout. PROS: Good series CONS: Video 4 has nothing to do with the series. They throw in a couple of mentions of the other videos, but it is a completely different video. It is good also, but doesn't really fit. Matt is not in video 4 because they changed directors and he refused to act in it. He does come back for video 5. Video 4 is the creation of Hawkeye from the Avengers (even the same actor).

Overall recommended
This is a good collection. While the packaging style is of the shelf hog variety, it's still well done. The 4k video is done over a span of many years, so you can see the evolution of the quality as the series progresses. The audio is similar, in the way that the first three movies, while in Atmos, don't wow. But the next two movies are better in reproducing object based audio. DTSX here does a good job. Content-wise, it's kind of low calorie espionage that's formulaic. I mean, who'd want to be in charge of any of these programs, Jason's just going to end up deleting you. And if you're female, don't be anywhere near the guy. Also, a word about the cinematography: pure trash. The first three films were made in the heyday of what I lovingly call the "seizure cam". The camera will just not sit still, bouncing up up down down left right left right zoom in zoom out like a Konami code. Combat is also a series of cuts, not one fluid shot. I really hated this style of camera work, as it ruined Gladiator and the Battlestar Galactica (among other reasons) reboot for me. Jeremy Renner's Bourne Legacy is my favorite out of these movies. I hope they continue on with his storyline, but its ending was satisfying enough if there are no more.

Spy/Action Cinema Evolved
It's said that the Bourne series redefined the spy film genre, and when you watch the latest iteration of Bond films, the Mission Impossible series, The Equalizer, etc., the influence is unmistakable. The plotlines draw from the real world of modern covert operations, and the cinematography, special effects, and stunt coordination are just off the charts. Alot of very talented and creative individuals contribute to these productions, and I tip my hat to all of them. Oh, and there's a list somewhere online that has a "Bourne Films Ranked," with "Legacy" (Jeremy Renner, no Matt Damon) in 5th spot. I'd have to wholeheartedly disagree. I just finished it myself (4th film in the series), and it is my favorite thus far. Very cerebral and serious, extremely cool stunts/special effects, great incorporation of real world spy/surveillance protocols... so good it prompted me to write this review. All in all, a superb set of films to add to one's collection.
