Dino and Susan in heavy melodrama - Susan shines , Dean defers
Tv was about 13 years old but movies were still movies and here's a real movie.Highly relatable today ;and very entertaining and intelligent screenplay keeps us in focus when the drama gets a little muddled before the excellent resolution .Love Dino but at times he's just a little too laid back in a role which perhaps Andy Griffith (he played "Lonesome Rhodes" , a very similar role a few years ago) could have nailed .He's the singing politician (non politician?) and he is irresistable as a folksy favorite. It may have come off a little hokey but it would not have hurt to have Dean serenade Susan , at some point.Picture and sound , fine for me!Very recommended item.

Strange bedfellows
Southern state politics and corruption. A governor hand-picked by an aging bureaucrat to be a "pencil-pusher" for self-interest legislation. Susan Hayward is the former wayward woman now married to the naive' new governor. Dean Martin is reasonably effective in the role of the sacrificial lamb. Wilfred Hyde-White is very good as the aging bureaucrat as is Ralph Meeker as the State Patrol henchman who will use any and all means at hand to retain power and position. Martin Balsam is a reliable friend and a duty filled assistant to the the governor who meets within an unfortunate and untimely death. A good premise for a film with good production values, story and performances. See it!

Two Greats
It was said to be a "stinker" by the critics but don't believe them.It was wonderful! One of Susan Hayward's best.It happened to be the one she wanted to watch in her dying days. Now I know why.A side note: Susan Hayward was born in 1917 - so was Dean Martin. He was 23 days older than she was.

Minor political drama lacks depth
Ms. Hayward, Mr. Martin and a fine supporting cast are engaged thanklessly in service of a limp and predictable script that possesses neither the emotional intensity nor the intellectual grit which make classics of the genre so memorable ('Advise and Consent,' 'A Face in the Crowd,' 'All the King's Men,' et al). 'Ada' (MGM, 1961), while perfectly passable as light political drama, shows all the signs of Hollywood-product fatigue indicative of the late-studio period as its characters and situations are glossed over (e.g., had I not read the jacket blurb I would've been hard-pressed even to guess that the story was supposed to take place during the Depression) in favor of broad plotting, rich sets and painterly cinematography. Director Daniel Mann ('Butterfield 8,' 'The Rose Tattoo') has delivered much better. The Warner Archive DVD-R offers an acceptably clean anamorphic-widescreen print with only a few artifacts evident, though a restoration might sharpen what an overly warm color reproduction effectively dulls. Sound levels are somewhat low, too, so keep the volume button handy. Film earns 3-minus stars, presentation (no extras other than a trailer) 3.

A Woman with Courage
I love Susan Hayward. I have this movie on VHS. I am glad to see it came out on DVD. I love watching Susan Hayward go to bat for her husband when he is being used by crooked politians. She plays a strong woman and sees right through their deceit. You cannot go wrong this movie. Great sound and quality.

Susan at her finest pushing the men out.
I love this movie. Woman takes over her husband's political office. Susan Hayward is one of our finest actresses in history and this is one of her sleepers to me Dean Martin even pulled off his part.

Susan Hayward character Ada stands up for her man !
Susan Hayward made movie after movie & always manages to throw herself into diverse different characters with such ease. Always giving one hundred percent of her great acting talent. Tremendous strong acting performances by herself & Wilfred Hyde-White.

Finale a lieto fine. Voto 6.5/7.00.

THe seller is a person of integrity and what more can be said about the epitome of COOL?
I experienced a non delivery and the seller immediately shipped the replacement DVD. The movie as all Dino's movies are a privilege to watch and own.

Good cast too
I had never seen the movie and I was surprised by the fact that it was ahead of its time as far as women in politics goes. Good cast too. I recommend it.
