Is this toothpaste approved by the american dental association (ada)?

I think this is a great toothpaste. I go through each of the ingredients in my review, so you can decide for yourself. The American Dental Association is a good professional group. However, you should know that the ADA charges manufacturers $14,500 to evaluate their products and $3,500/year to publish the seal (check wiki).

I need a tartar control toothpaste does this do that along with whitening your teeth?

If you mean the 'gritty' stuff that polishes, then I'd say yes. I have sensitive teeth, and this toothpaste works well without sensitivity. The same goes for the whitening strips. I've used the strips for many years without any problems.
