If by existing you mean live stock in it? Yes, and if you mean no stock but ammonia, yes again. You might be better off doing a water change if you have life in tank though. If you dose this you will have to monitor nitrite and nitrate cycles.

It will not kill your invert food source. It’s bacteria that’s beneficial to your aquarium

Once your tank has been fed regularly for a few days either with out without fish to start the bacterial cycle, add half during the first week and the other half during the 2nd. Add a small amount after water changes is also a good idea for upkeep. Buy 2 bottles.

I wouldn't use this product as a means of nitrite reduction. Live rock will do a much better job of that. I use this product as a means of adding biodiversity to my tank. It did nothing for nitrate levels.
