Works as is!
Works for 9volts & 12 volts DC!!! Anything below 8volts it starts to lose potential. In other words, it doesn’t work at 7volts. Pretty cool little things

fragile
It works well but it's fragile. The description says I can input 5 amps but it can only handle 3.5 before it breaks

Old Sparky
OK I purchased these as I'm a gadget junkie. With a 9 volt battery I was able to get a very loud arc of up to a half inch. Putting the wire ends closer produced a quicker arc while extending them to half inch apart produced an immense impressive slower arc as one would get from a high power stun gun device.Only used one so far to see what they were about with maybe 10 minutes of total on time (but not all at once. Just intermittently) Seem to be impressive enough & stable enough. As with all electronic stun devices that produce an arc I'd advise to not let it arc for more than 5-10 seconds at a time. Great very simple demo item.

Complete failure...My bad. my batteries were old and not delivering enough power
I purchased a 5 pack of these dynamos. I attached a nine volt battery to the black and red (line) leads, but there was no current at the other (load) end. I tested all five with two batteries. Then I tested all 5 with a multi meter and found no flow of electricity from one side of the dynamo to the other. There was however, continuity from the black lead to the red lead. This was true for every voltage generator. I returned that first five and quickly received another five. All of these new ones tested identically to the previous five. It looks to me as if they have a defective manufacturing process and no quality control. I would like to retract this review. I used a fresh battery and ended up shocking myself.

I gave 2 stars because only 2 out of 5 works.
2 works fine. 2 only produces a spark when the gap is @1mm or less. 1 did nothing. The input voltage stated is wrong. 3 volts does ok, 4 volts is the idea voltage. It produces a good spark, @ 2 amps. I ran it for 25 minutes before reaching 60*C, I would not recommend going above that temperature. I went up to 6 volts with one of them, it overheated and died within 3 minutes.

Fantastic value
One of five, didn’t work and there was a limit to continuous operation, arcing.

These aren't as bad as people say they are
OK here's the thing. After testing these things for a while I can say that their lifespan depends on how they are used. I'm sure as long as you aren't being to hard on them they will be fine. Also another thing the transformers likely aren't what are burning out on your tazers. Tact switches which are what most people use are only rated for around 50ma or so. When you are pushing such high amperage it's really easy to fry them. My first taser I made I fried the switch. I replaced it shortly after and it worked perfectly fine. Overall really good product I definitely recommend

Not good quality
Junk, I have two left. They will run for about 20 seconds then stop and won’t work anymore.
