Out of the Box it Plays Fine
I bought this as a supplemental player for a second room. It only has one type of RCA connections on the back. No optical or coaxial connections. But I find that it operates perfectly and sounds very good. I have noticed no skipping. When you first turn it on it is a tad bit slow to open the cd drawer. When I say tad bit slow it does not instantly open the drawer but it is fast enough. All the commands respond nicely and when hooked up to a nice audio system it sounds very good. For the reasonable price I believe you are getting a solid basic player. It lacks connection options but if you mostly use standard RCA cables this machine will be just fine for you. One thing that impressed me is the unit is quite heavy for a cd player. It is not flimsy. And it will definitely outperform those cheap portable units out there.

Nice unit.
Very nice CD player. Sounds great and seems to have a solid build. I’ve only used the unit for a few hours so I can’t comment on longevity but so far it is working perfectlyUpdate: After playing the unit for a few more hours, it unfortunately began to skip rendering itself unusable. Very unfortunate !

Today's Pioneer Disc Player
I purchased this CD player in October of 2024, and received it 3 days later, on Oct. 4, 2024. Prior to my purchase, I reviewed ALL of the feedback on the player, both Positive and Negative. To that end, I must inform the Negative reviewers that Pioneer has since been purchased by Onkyo, Inc., the gold standard of medium priced home electronics. This unit has been completely remanufactured by Onkyo to its highest standards. Virtually NONE of the negative reviews seem to apply any longer (they were all in 2023). My new player is nothing less than perfect in every respect, after playing many discs. Yes, the outputs are still analog, but you would never know it by the sound output of the player. So, that is not a negative to me in any way. My cost was $279 from Amazon, the lowest of any suppliers that I could find, and given the scarcity of full sized CD players these days, it is quite the bargain. Please read this review, and I think it will explain most of the negative feedback you have given. Onkyo has done a fine job in completely remanufacturing this Pioneer unit. Thank you very much.

Skips a lot.
Thought it was a well built cd player. Quiet, nice remote and sounded great when it didn’t skip. Thought it might of been the first disc I tried, but realized after placing a brand new Beatles cd in and it skipped like crazy. Also had to unplug it and plug it back in every time to get sound. Very annoying. Pioneer was my very first cd player in the 90s lasted almost 25 years. Went without one during the iTunes craze, and purchased this because I refuse to pay for streaming music. Things just aren’t built like they used to be. I recommend reading all the reviews before buying anything electronic.

Excellent sound at asuper budget price.
Sound approaches the Marantz 6004 purchased 13 years ago...for less than a third the price the Marantz......Bought two, a year apart...One has starting issue but plays and does not skip...the other is perfect! The sound is not a full as the Marantz but no dissonance or sharpness. You cannot pair it with a separate transport... Seems it is no longer available on Amazon?
