Mandalas for Meditation: Scratch-Off NightScapes

Beautiful book.

I've never had any sort of scratch off book but I really like this one and am very glad I bought it, I love the designs and the colors so far. Working on just one mandala will take a lot of time and concentration for me at least, making it a decent time killing activity (I've gotten 1 1/2 done in 10 days). There are a variety of finely detailed designs but there is room to add your own details if you are so inclined (I'm not, that's why I bought a book that drew it for me). The book included a wooden "stylus" but its thinner than pencil sized and a tad awkward to hold for long periods of time so I made my own out of a bamboo skewer and a pen barrel- although you can buy other scratch off tools on here. I'm going to throw this in here too: I"ve worn glasses all my life so don't have the greatest vision and I have to use a clamp on magnifying glass (somewhere between 3x to 8x magnification) to see the gray parts clearly enough but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment.

Comes with a wooden stylus, fun activity to bring you into the present moment 🙃❤️🙂

updated review: i LOVE the wooden scraper. i discovered this after i bought an etch book with an actual metal scraper. at least the tip on this can be sharpened when needed by using the poor man's pencil sharpener technique. the metal scaper? not so much. the one thing i do not like about it (which is why i still haven't given it 5 stars) is that some of the photos have so much detail and small spaces between them that the detail gets lost amidst the color. i found myself keeping some of the gray areas intact just to have definition and contrast to some of the pictures. aside from that, this was a great meditative experience. (and i still stick with my one pass line routing. life is made so much easier than actually trying to scrape. trust me) original review: let's set the record straight: i love this etch art book. for the money, it is perfect--tons of hours piddling away, scraping, distracting the mind. that being said, the tool they give you to scrape such a large book is actually kind of offensive. one would think that with so many pads to etch, they would include a metal scraper with it. instead, they give you a wooden long handled "toothpick." pro tips: 1. buy a metal etcher. it will make your life easier. don't want to do that? then consider the following: a. learn to sharpen your wooden tool (please, for the love of god, DOT NOT use a pencil sharpener). simply scrub it against the cardboard surface in the back of the book while rolling it around. that will sharpen the point. FYI--you will have to do that about a third of the way thru the first etch. b. try the "tattoo" technique of using one pass lines to get the foil off. once i stopped "etching," i realized this was actually quite effective, especially on the etch boards with muted details.

I love doing the scratch art books. I have to say that this Mandalas scratch off is one of the most beautiful scratch offs I've done. To me scratch offs shouldn't be just one color or just silver or gold foil. That's part of the fun is wondering what color each line is or area is going to be. This book doesn't dissapoint.

I don't really leave reviews for stuff I buy but this was a cool buy for me. It might not be for everyone but it just is really a neat thing for me. It was one of those things I had thought of buying for a bit and then finally just decided to do it. I'm glad I did. Scratch offs are fun in general so add some really cool colors and a picture and voila!! You don't have to be perfect with the lines and it still just looks so cool with the black backdrop. I'm currently looking for another book to mix things up with the pictures. I figured I might as well leave this review in case anyone reading this might be in the same boat I was before I actually went for it. It really is meditative and relaxing plus you get a really pretty picture at the end if it. It just makes you feel relaxed and accomplished at the same time. It's weirdly satisfying lol. I'm glad these things exist. 😃

I recently got into this scratch art, very addicting. I've tried all different books and styles and this book is by far the best! The paper is very thick and heavy, the scratching material is easy to scratch, even when it's humid. I wish there were more books from this company, I can't find anything comparable.

This book is fantastic!! It's a bit pricey because I know it can be bought at Koles for around $16 but totally worth it all the same. The pictures and color's are gorgeous. There are pieces of white tissue paper in between each picture for protection of the piece you are working on as well as for the ones you aren't. It comes with a wood tool that sits in its own spot in the back of the book. It would have been nice if it had come with a higher quality tool but the wooden one that comes with the book works okay. The major negative issue I have is that the black layer is very thin. Just having the wood tool accidentally roll across your page will remove some of this black scratch off layer. Overall I adore this book and I hope they eventually come out with an animal version. Highly recommend!

Fun scratch to colour book. Bit messy at times but easily cleanable. Bright pictures when revealed.
