After We Fall

Farmer Frownypants and City Girl give a whole new meaning to the word chemistry.
Holy hell, this book was smokin'. The chemistry between Jack and Margot was seriously off the charts, whether they were fighting, bantering, flirting, or about to make some magic."He was kissing me like I'd never been kissed before. Like he was going to war. Like he didn't care about breathing. Like something in him needed something in me so desperately, he had to find it or die trying".Yes please, can I get me some of that? This book seriously brought out all the feels. Jack was such a deep and complex character, changed and jaded because of life's tragedies. Though his choices in life were questionable, the size of his heart never was:"I'd already met the love of my life; I'd known her since we were kids. I'd married her and I'd lost her".Melanie Harlow did an AMAZING job with his character. I wanted to slap him at times, but oh how I loved him. There were some incredibly swoon-worthy moments in this book, but my favorites included the following Jackisms:"Careful, city girl, I'll want to keep you" and "I'm not looking for my first love, I'm looking for my last". Be still my heart.....And Margot, bless her heart. She showed up on the farm with her big heart and just wanted to make everything better. Though she went to the farm for a job, she found so much more. My heart broke for them both at times as they went back and forth in this angsty drama.Melanie Harlow is an automatic "one'click" author for me. She is truly gifted with her words, and this book is no exception. You will not be disappointed.

Swoony and Steamy Perfection!
Actual Rating 4.5 starsAfter We Fall is a beautiful and emotional second chance love story. It will make you cry and break your heart, but just as quickly, it will make you laugh out loud and feel giddy with hope.I loved Jack and Margot - both individually and together. I also loved that the story was told from both of their points of views and that we got glimpses into the feelings and reasons they were acting the way they were. On paper, Margot and Jack couldn't be more different, but once the walls and masks fell away, they really complemented each other so well. I did want to scream at Jack a few times for the way he behaved, but in the end it was hard not to fall in love with him after everything he had experienced. Plus, there were plenty of swoony and steamy moments that left me blushing! Let's just say, that I have a new appreciation for farmers! ;)The other characters in the book were just as great! I loved Jack's brothers, Pete and Brad, and his sister in law, Georgia, and how cute was his nephew, Cooper!? My heart melted every time they were together. I liked that his family pushed when they needed to, but also just supported Jack the way that they thought was most helpful (even if Jack didn't/couldn't see it that way). I especially enjoyed Margot's best friend, Jamie. She is the girlfriend we all need, who will tell you like it is, but still have your back 100%. One of my favorite parts of the book though, were all the scone puns! Seriously, they were so funny and helped lighten the mood when things got a little heavy.I definitely enjoyed After We Fall a lot and the only reason it's not 5 stars for me is that I'm not really a fan of the dead spouse/lover storyline and I thought the ending chapters felt a little rushed. The epilogue was perfection though and Melanie's writing is so witty and relatable that this was still an amazing read! If you're really not a fan of the dead spouse trope though, you may not enjoy the book as much since it plays a big part in Jack's character arc.

Broken can be mended.
I'm not even sure how to put into words this book. It's one of my top 5 reads of the year! This is also my first from this author! The synopsis pulled me in but the story held me captive.Jack is your typical farm boy. Well. There's nothing "boyish" about him. He's a rugged, muscular, handsome farmer. Boy is he handsome. But he's broken in many ways that aren't seen by the naked eye. He's set in his ways until Margot marches into his life and turns it upside down. She's completely the opposite of Jack and his lifestyle. She's from money and prestige. Does what's she's told. Although she's here for her job, she's looking for something else that she doesn't even know exists. That's when the electricity arises between them. He's the forbidden fruit and she's the "rich city girl."This story has it all. It had me in tears. It had me laughing. It plain and simple had me. I absolutely fell in love with this broken hero and everything he stands for. It's a must read.

Heartbreakingly beautiful and flawlessly written
I'm a long time fangirl of Melanie Harlow and I've never hesitated to one-click her because I always know I'll get a well-written, sexy, fun book out of it. But this book....this book is her best yet (Sorry Sebastian).Sure you get the sexy, steamy scenes she writes so perfectly and the funny moments you're used to from her, but you also get an emotional, heartbreaking story about love and loss, of moving forward and letting go.I think that Melanie did a terrific job of developing Jack's character through his past and how he deals with it. The pain and guilt he feels from his time in the Army and loss of his wife and the way he punishes himself for it broke me, but only because she so flawlessly nailed the struggles of PTSD and grief. The opposites attract banter between Jack and Margot was perfection. Jack and his broody, closed-off attitude combined with Margot's polite, sunny optimism made for a great sort of tension and connection between them. I couldn't stop reading to find out how they finally broke and gave into their feelings.Again, I fully expected to enjoy this book and fall in love with the characters, as she did, but I didn't expect for her to break me into pieces at the same time. She truly outdid herself with this book and I'm in more awe of her because of it.If you've never read a Melanie Harlow book (for reasons I can't begin to understand) then I highly suggest you make this one your first.

Smokin' hot grumpy farmer and city girl romance
Wow, wasn't I lucky to get this as a Kindle freebie, especially since it's back to full price!PR society girl Margot Lewiston is advised by her mother to leave town after creating a scene (involving throwing multiple scones at her ex-boyfriend). She takes a job out in the country to create a marketing strategy for a family run organic farm, Valentini Brothers.Jack Valentini is the middle brother, a former soldier, a widower and suffering from PTSD he is the brother truly committed to continuing their father's legacy, he just can't afford to buy out his brothers. The farm is under pressure from competitors but he doesn't see any need for change, he especially doesn't need Marketing Barbie batting her big blue eyes at him or tossing her silky blonde hair - no Sir!Margot might be more big city girl than country girl but she's smart and funny and good at her job. Soon the sparks are flying between her and Jack, but it could never work, could it?I liked this, Margot and Jack were sweet and funny, just the sheer number of scone jokes alone deserves a star all for itself, and the sex was smokin' hot! And who doesn't love organic food?No idea why I bought this, but very glad I did.

Want to give more than five
This is a proper well thought out love story. Margot is a very wealthy woman, she has her own company and she finds out her boyfriend is marrying someone else. She takes on a new client just so she can get away, they are a group of three brothers with a farm needing marketing advice. She meets the moody Jack who doesn't want to change anything. She is attracted to him but finds he has serious issues with her interfering. They fight then it's something else entirely.

3.5 stars
This is a decently written book. For a kindle book over £3 i expect more than this though. After we fall is a very generic farmer small town second chance love novel. The author has two lovely characters with Jack and Margot but they just weren't developed enough. The author flushed out Jack but Margot was left so two dimensional. The plot was very simple. They were together by the 35% mark and really no surprises after that. While I appreciate the romance in that, it makes for a boring story. Tension is everything in these books and this book could have done with more of it.

All the feels!
“I’m not looking for my first love. I’m looking for my last.”This book goes through so many emotions. Definitely some laugh out loud, and then easily switches to teary eyed. I loved that Margot, was quite simple with 'real life's situations, but not totally spoilt, that you couldn't warm to her. She definitely won brownie points, because she didn't back down from a challenge and was open to new experiences. As for Jack, the poor soul, you could really feel for him. Melanie, has done an amazing job with these two and their life experiences. Thanks for another fabulous read x
