Works perfectly, *DRASTICALLY* sped up my transcription! **BUY IT** :-)
Wow, was this ever a great purchase. I have a number of lengthy (~1 hour each) interviews to transcribe so I can write articles about them, and this pedal has increased my transcription throughput by at least a factor of 3 or 4. There are three pedals that you can program to have different functions within the ExpressScribe program; what worked best for me was to make the outside pedals jump 5 seconds back/forward and the center pedal control the playback. (Plays when pressed, stops playing when I release.)It took a little getting used to, to move my toe the right amount to tap the outside pedals without also hitting the center one, but I'm getting better, and right out of the box it was a huge help. (One suggestion: play with the distance of the pedal from your chair; getting it just right can make a big difference both to comfort and ease/accuracy of use.)One great benefit is that the app (I'm using a MacBook Pro) will run and respond properly to the pedal in the background, so you can type the transcript in an app of your choice. (You can also type into ExpressScribe itself, but I prefer being able to format subheads, italics, etc, which I don't think you can do in the app's own window.)Bottom line, I can't believe how much this has sped up the transcription, I feel like it paid for itself with the first hour of audio :-)

This is the pedal package you want! Do not buy the pedal-only version! (Mac OSX user)
Wow. I usually hire transcriptionists, but I have the occasional need to do one or two myself. Transcriptionists have always told me that they couldn't live without their pedals, and now I know why!I use Mac OSX 10.10.2 on a MacBook Pro Retina. This package came with a CDROM, but I downloaded ExpressScribe from the vendor's site instead to get the latest version. The software registration seemed overly complex but worked smoothly. The pedal installed without requiring any additional drivers. Then I started transcribing a short interview that I needed quickly. The MP3 imported easily. At first the pedals seemed backwards-whoever heard of rewind on the right and fast forward on the left? But this was easy to change within the Preferences. Then I got sick of rewinding and changed it again to 1-click 5-second rewind, which was also easy to do.I'm not a fast typist, but I would estimate that my transcription speed is almost double what it was before using the pedal. I'm still debating whether to use tap-lock or not, but all of these features are easily configurable. The pedal itself is heavy, which is good because you are going to be banging your foot on it many times every time you use it. It is nicely contoured and easy to find the three different controls (left-center-right).I strongly recommend that you purchase this package rather than the pedal alone. This comes with ExpressScribe Pro, which is the pedal control software. The Pro version opens more types of files, which is reason enough to spend a few extra bucks. There are other differences you can read about on the vendor's web site. Find it in Australia on Google.Highly recommended for doing a great job right out of the box.

Absolutely Worth Every Penny for Work, For Gifts, For Sanity!
I am up against deadline for a regional periodical as I write this, but interrupted the arduous and much-loathed job of transcribing a 2+ hour interview from my Sony recorder ( Sony ICD-UX512 2 GB Flash Memory Digital Voice Recorder (Silver) ) to set up and become familiar with this pedal and software as soon as the package arrived in my mailbox. Within minutes - less than 15 - I was able to return to my work and simply cannot believe how much easier the transcription process has become. I am a reasonable typist, but my wpm increased exponentially as a direct result of using the foot pedal to control pause, 5-second reverse, and fast forward. Within the 15 minutes mentioned above, I was able to set up the pedal in a way that was best for me. Wow. If transcribing interviews for newspaper stories, family histories, newsletters, or record keeping is frustrating for you, this is a huge time-saver and an affordable alternative to hiring a professional. I actually plan to purchase more as gifts for fellow journalists, writers, et al. The one piece of advice I might offer, however, is to close the program when finished, or else beware of small cats parading about near your feet - it's startling when a conversation/recorded interview breaks through the quiet of an empty office. Value for money
I am a freelance court reporter, and I decided to switch from Olympus DSS Transcription Module to the Express Scribe Pro.PROS: *Easy to set up and use*I like that ESP will keep track of where you are on a recording even when you close out the program.*It is WAY cheaper in price than Olympus.*The foot pedal is better designed than my previous Olympus one.CONS: *For the life of me, I could not figure out how to adjust the channels to listen to my audio recordings. I figured it out eventually by watching tutorials online. I just changed my recording method on my digital recorders to MP3, and it solved the problem.*There are not separate folders like in the DSS Pro. All dictations/recordings are displayed on one "folder."
