desertcart.com: The Executive Functioning Workbook for Teens: Help for Unprepared, Late, and Scattered Teens (Instant Help Solutions): 9781608826568: Hansen MSE NBCT, Sharon A.: Books Review: Great Workbook for Small Groups - I purchased this workbook to use with my Executive Functioning Small Group for 7th graders. There are scenarios and activities for students to complete on each topic. The one student felt the scenarios matched so closely to things that he was experiencing that he asked me if I wrote the book. While his comment was hilarious, I did say that the book was written by someone else. He said he thought it was just my pen name. To me, this was important feedback because he connected with the material in the book. The book covered topics such as time management, decision-making, goal-setting, problem-solving, prioritization, etc. The book would be useful for middle and high school students. Some scenarios applied more to high school, so I made up my own scenarios for my middle school students. Overall though, the book was very useful for running my small group. I will be using it again in the future. I also recommended it to families of students who struggle with executive functioning skills that did not participate in my group. Review: Helpful in understanding your child's behavior - This may help you understand why your child does some of the things they do. I have a special needs child who I often thought was being defiant. Truth is he couldn't process the information being presented to him which led him to become confused and then he gets frustrated. Not making excuses for him, but instead understanding him and his behavior; which includes his level of functioning. This has led to us towards learning how to help him and us as a family.

Excellent Skills that Address Student Needs
I use this product as part of my Social Emotional Curriculum. This book allows me to asses, target skills, and address executive functioning skills of students. I am able to branch off of the main topics with supplemental activities and the combination allows for rich and lively class discussions!

Used this for therapy with a 12 year old
I purchased this to help facilitate therapy with a very bright 12 year old who has difficulty with executive functioning skills. We started to do some of the exercises and I gave her the book to complete with her parents participating as well. I like how it has questions to determine which areas to focus on (she and I did this together) and then offers worksheets to work on those specific areas. I would purchase it again if needed for another teen.

Great resource for parents and children
Fantastic workbook for my middle-school-aged son. He does the activities and then we discuss them. First lesson has the child evaluate their skills and then work through the book in sets of three activities starting with their weakest skill and working towards their most challenging. 3-4 pages per activity with "how would you approach this situation" or "now you try it" style activities. Fantastic resource for parents and children alike!!

For younger kids, not teens
Although the quiz helped my teens identify areas for improvement, the advice for actually making improvements isn't very good and seems to be geared towards much younger kids.

Work on Executive Functioning
Worked with my grandson who has difficulty with Executive Functioning. Material is informative, non-judgmental, gives step by step process to work to improve executive functioning. Great book

Great for managing ADHD
Love it, I am a mental health clinician and often find executive functioning interventions outside of my expertise. This workbook has been a useful tool in encouraging parents to work with their teens outside of therapy and also for teens to make changes and adjustments to manage ADHD symptoms.

This book is very well thought through, the explanations are clear and can be applied to real examples. Lots of practical exercises to support your child.

I believe this book will be a great tool to help all children and teenagers alike, to become more efficient in executive functioning. I wish schools would adopt this workbook as a program to help students as early as grade 3 or 4, especially anyone that is struggling in school. When my oldest child was in school his teachers recognized that he had serious executive functioning problems, but said he was too smart to be put into a special program that would help him. This book would have helped him to tremendously. My second child is in grade 9, and I am sure we will see great improvements with him. Thank-you Sharon Hansen for writing this book.

I was a bit disappointed with this book. I was hoping it would be a positively worded book for Neurodivergent individuals who may already be experiencing low self esteem. However, the frequent use of terms like 'weakness' and examples given that seem to emphasize the teen is falling short and just needs to try harder, feels very unhelpful. Particularly when quite often, a change in expectation, topic, or environment might actually show a particular executive function becomes a strength, or at least improves, given the right circumstances. There is little emphasis on how others can better support the person or adapt expectations, just that the person should change or practice skills to fit in with expectations. There is minimal focus on self advocacy that I could find. It wasn't what I was looking for, so maybe my expectations were wrong too.
