Enables clear viewing of negatives
It is expensive for what it is but I am able to view negatives of varying sizes with ease not just 35mm like many others. I didn't use the recommended conversion app on my phone as I found that it only picked up part of the image on some very old negatives, plus it is a subscription service (after a 3-day free trial) I found the Kodak Mobile film Scanner app is great with the ability to enhance the image and is completely free.On the whole, I am very happy with the purchase as I can now see photo's that were lost to time.Tip: I used the rack from a combi microwave over the lightbox to put my phone on rather than try to hold it. The bars on it are wide enough that they don't interfere with the phone camera and it was a good height for scanning the negatives.

The perfect answer for lighting negatives and glass slides
Having tried to scan glass lantern slides, 35mm slides, and negs with a flatbed scanner and with a lightbox app on a kindle nothing seemed to get a decent copy. Glass slides on a scanner are slightly out of focus and using the kindle gives moiré. This little viewer is great when used with a camera, the background light is just right to illuminate a slide or neg and just the right type to avoid strange colours and lines. Could have done with a mains charger but does come with a nice protective sleeve and a set of batteries, highly recommended. If you just want to view slides rather than copy them you will need a dedicated viewer that lights and magnifies rather than this (or you could use this with a magnifying glass!).

Not a Scanner
Great bit of kit but its not a scanner, just a light box to place slides or negatives on. Runs on batteries which are provided. Also has a USB cable to obtain power direct from a normal computer USB port.Used mine with a camera and macro lens on a tripod, worked a treat.

Not worth the money
Very expensive just for a white light.Ordered this for my mum as she wanted to view her old slides, when it came, i was thinkin is this all it does? Its just a white screen for £40 quid?

Does the job well
This slide scanner does exactly what it is supposed to do. The light intensity is very good and negative viewing is achieved very easily. Old negatives tend to curl, so a method of holding them down flat would have been useful. An additional Perspex plate with anti-glare finish perhaps, but this may affect image clarity? Something to think about? The only real negative (excuse the pun) is the cost. For something so basic I would have preferred to have seen a lower cost, say £10 cheaper to make it realistic and then worthy of five stars.
