Nice addition to my camping gear.
Works great with the right technique and a little practice. Just scrape away the black protective coating and within a few strikes you'll be making sparks. Keep the rod as close to your tinder as possible and concentrate the sparks on your tinder pile. With quality tinder you will get a flame in no time. Fun to use and I will be getting several more for my backpacks and vehicles.

Exciting!!
This throws really good sparks and is incredible. It has a really nice holding place so even when your hands get cold, say during camping or if it’s snowing...I dunno some situation you need a fire and it’s really cold and you’re outside... point is, this is bloody fantastic and the steel as good girth and circumference to it.You can’t go wrong buying this.

Both rods were the size of my finger and came with a nice wooden handle like comes with this one
This is exactly the size Ferro Rod my wife and I have looked for. We had a ,similar in concept, that was made of a Ferro Rod glued industrially to a magnesium rod. Both rods were the size of my finger and came with a nice wooden handle like comes with this one. Best replacement ever, and it fits in your hand.

The handle is comfortable but it does take away some striking area
The handle is comfortable but it does take away some striking area. While I did not try this, I suspect that in a pinch the handle can be removed and more area to strike would be available. The striker works but I like using a knife better. Sparks are comparable to other rods. I used it to start several fires.

Good Ferriera Rod
These are very good. I keep a longer one as my primary but this is great to attach to a knife sheath or to keep in a pocket. They throw an incredible amount of sparks and will light an good tinder bundle or charred material.

Great product!

it catches things on fire really well
catches stuff on fire, be sure and scrape off the black coating as it is essential to get sparks, it wont work right if you don't, I used some sand paper and then the striker.

Great item works like a charm, now even I can start a fire. I should join Survivor, just kidding, it arrived just as described and very fast.
