Crane Filter for Drop Shape Humidifier

This finally solves the annoying hard water white dust problem I have when running this humidifier. It seems to last just over a month at my house when using it only at night in the bedroom. I could tell it was getting to the end of its life because the screen was getting plugged with lime. It was still keeping the white dust away but the motor was struggling a bit more to get the vapor through; that would probably shorten the life of you humidifier so check it & change it when needed.You still need to be on top of keeping all the parts clean on this machine. This filter is not meant to "disinfect" the water/vapor. I still wash everything with hot water & vinegar a couple times per week.

We've got a hygrometer in our bedroom, and I noticed, after a couple of days of running our Crane Drop-Shape Humidifier, that the screen of the hygrometer would be covered in a film of white dust. I'd heard that ultrasonic humidifiers would create this dust.At first, after installing this filter, I thought I noticed an even quicker build up of the dust; I was pretty bummed. But, after running about 5 or 6 tankfuls through the humidifier with the filter installed, we have almost no dust at all. It's been about two weeks, and there's just a tiny bit of dust on our hygrometer, so I think this filter definitely cuts down on the dust deposits.I gave it a four-star rating because the filter is not serviceable or cleanable, so it's only disposable, and at 10 bucks, it costs about a quarter of what I paid for the humidifier. I wish there was a better way, but this filter does what it's supposed to do.

I got this because I knew in advance that my tap water was 'hard'. In the drop humidifier instructions (which you don't read until you have purchased the thing) it says - note: It is recommended you used filtered or distilled water. The reason is because the minerals in tap water will cause some white dust to come from the machine. And I guess over time it will cause the unit to not work properly. Anyway I got this thing and they don't list here that it should be replaced after 30-40 refills - and you refill every day. That means the life of the filter is around a month. Just consider this expense if you have hard water like almost everyone does.The filter itself is around 3x5 inches. It fits in there just fine. You have to soak it for 30 minutes before you put it in the machine.

UPDATE - They have modified the filter so that it now works with the newer version of the Drop Humidifier... at least the last one they sent me worked in both.=============================================This filter absolutely DOES NOT work with the Crane Drop Shape humidifier I just bought on Amazon (bought the unit and this filter at the same time). The cap for the hole where you fill the humidifier tank is supposed to fit into the hole on this filter. It does not.Evidently there are two Crane Drop Humidifiers shipping from Amazon. One has little cut outs in the handle on the top of the tank. The other has a solid handle on the top of the tank. I have uploaded photos. The solid handled tank should work with this filter. The one with the cut outs absolutely does not.Now you know.UPDATE - They have modified the filter so that it now works with the newer version of the Drop Humidifier... at least the last one they sent me worked in both. Hopefully this is a consistent update. I have changed my star rating accordingly. We still get a decent amount of "white powder," even though I'm using a high end water filter at the tap, and this filter on the humidifier. I'm not sure what it would take to remove the powder altogether, as this is some pretty rigorous water treatment.

bought two filters for our drop humidifiers last year (2014) because we have hard water and I'd read reviews about white dust. It worked great all winter long, and although we didn't use it everyday, we definitely used it past the 30-40 fillings suggestion and it still worked great and prevented any white dust from coming out. Went to purchase two more for this winter season and found they had updated their filter. The new one is NOT as user friendly and very hard to get in our humidifier, but this one is now twice as expensive because they don't make it anymore. Bring this one back please!!!

UPDATE:I chatted with Amazon, who said they would investigate, and would, once they had the problem resolved, send me a new filter if I returned the old one. They said it would take about a week to investigate and then some unknown time (short? long?) to fix whatever problem the investigation confirms. That still leaves my humidifier unusable for the time being (very hard water).I also emailed with Crane, who were sympathetic and who seem frustrated that Amazon keeps shipping out an old version of the filter. Crane can make a new-design filter available quickly. I appreciate their responsiveness and look forward to soon having a more humid world.END UPDATEThis is my worst Amazon experience yet. I have Prime shipping (eg, 2 day free) but the filter was in transit over a week.Then, just as the reviews say, it does not fit my humidier, which I just bought a few weeks ago from Amazon.I saw the one highlighted review that mentioned that, but assumed it was an isolated problem that they would fix once they knew.Now I see that my expectations were too high. They just keep shipping out the same problematic filter.What a waste of my time.

My 14 year old son went through a pretty bad stretch of nosebleeds that happened at night or first thing in the morning. We were advised by an ear, nose and throat specialist to try a new humidifier. We are pleased to report that the nightly use of the Crane Drop Shape humidifier seems to have done the trick. We ordered the filter to help with the hard water that we have here (we are blessed with a very wonderful aquifer source of water, but it is still very "hard" water). So far, it has worked very well.

Just received this filter a few days ago and started using it right away with my teardrop humidifier as recommended. I had the humidifier last season already and although I love the machine ..... the best of all I tried in the past, I was concerned for the white dust it leaves on all my AV equipment in the same room.Thinking the price was a little steep for the filter since it is rated for about 1-2 months of regular use but I figured if it works why not!Well, after 4 days of use, the white dust is still the same I don't even see a slight improvement from sans filter!! I live in Toronto so I don't think of our water as super hard. I'm puzzled by the positive reviews on this .... ?!Bottom line, save your money on this product, just keep a dusting rag handy.

After reading some mixed reviews on the Amazon.com site about these filters, I tried one. This filter reduces the amount of dust put into the air, but dust is still an issue with Montreal municipal water. Ultimately, it's better (and cheaper) for me to buy distilled water from the grocery store since there's no dust from it.

Easy to use and install into the Crane white drop shape humifier. I have only had the humidifier a few weeks so I have not needed to check the filter yet so I cannot comment on how well it removes dust from the water.

Keeps your walls from gathering a white film from hard water. If you live in a hard water area with no water filtration, this filter is a must if you use a humidifier.
