Excellent sound!
Even and balanced response from string to string! I have it wedged on the E string side and was blown away at the quality of tone, and I’ve gone through at least five different pickups and mic systems. Easy install. I play blues country and jump blues on a quality ply bass and this pickup gives me the classic ‘thump’ , with plenty of low end and clarity. Very natural sounding!

Great sound!
Bought this for playing bass at church. Easy to install, and sounded great! I am very happy with it.

Great sound. Easy to install.
This pickup sounds great and is easy to install. I get a balanced sound across all strings. It even works well with my effects pedals. It's amazing. I did have a bit of user error upon first use. The guitar cable requires a solid push-in to lock in place and get a clear signal. I kept getting static and feedback because I hadn't pushed it in all the way. I thought it was a problem with the pickup. I almost returned it but soon realized that I hadn't used enough force to push the cable all the way in. So, make sure you push your cable in until it locks in place.

I like this a lot... and the price is the best deal for a pickup in this class...
Very easy to install and uninstall... I love the sound of this, very even across the strings. I play mostly jazz, mostly pizzicato. Nice frequency response, lows, mid and highs are all very nice and balanced. I installed on the G string side. Tip: Try different shim thicknesses, (they are included) I preferred the sound that was not too tight. I recorded the bass a bunch of times, direct, to really hear just the pickup. I recommend a direct box with at least 1 meg-ohms impedance. I used a countryman type 10 in the studio, it's 10 meg-ohms and the pickup sounded the best that I have owned. Live or when running thru a bass amp, I use the Radial Engineering Bassbone OD, it is also a 10 meg-ohms input with the switch engaged. I also own the David Gage realist, K&K bass max, Rev Solo Double Bass Pickup. This is currently my favorite only exceeded by my DPA 4099 mic. The DPA mic sounds so much better than any pickup but a pickup is needed live. (I use the pickup for the monitoring on stage, the mic for the live sound and recording, this allows a lot more volume before feedback). Good luck!

Great customer service!
I have used this pickup for the last couple of years and am very happy with the quality and performance. I want to give a shoutout to the company’s excellent support. I lost the screw to the clamp that holds the input. They were very helpful and replaced the whole clamp for me. Excellent!

Pretty good sound for the price
I bought a 1963 Kay M1B, and wanted to use a new pickup rather than disturb the K&K Bass Max tightly wedged in another bass bridge. The DB-1 has an unbeatable price and received good reviews on Gollihur.com, who I consider an authority on all things bass. I want to think this is a great pickup, that I I'm just not having an ideal experience. The initial installation was easy. Shims are an awesome idea for securing the piezo mic. Arco sound was good, but I got a lot of trebly string sounds when playing pizzicato, so I started adjusting pickup placement. After adjusting every few days over the course of week, I might have 3 unbroken shims remaining, and haven't yet found the best placement. Once I find it, I will consider the pickup position on the bridge permanent. Also, it's possible that my tailpiece is oddly narrow or rounded just under the string ends where the pickup is screwed in, but the 1/4" jack can't be mounted flush, and it doesn't seem super sturdy. That said, it's still a good price and I'd give the sound quality a conditional four stars assuming I can find a sweet spot for pizzicato AND arco. I would recommend the DB-1 with the caveat to be extra careful adjusting placement with shims -- and to leave the transducer alone once you get a decent sound. I would not consider the pickup portable or shareable between instruments.

Electronics can not improve the sound of a good double bass
On my bass, this pickup is fairly prone to feedback and has a very percussive/thunky sound more like a a tuned tom-tom than a double-bass. This is probably an excellent pickup for Rockabilly and will likely punch through such mixes well but it isn't my preference. The percussive character can greatly diminished with significant EQ (needs 1/3 octave spacing), but the basic character stubbornly persists. This pickup is easy to install, the jack mounting strategy is decent and thankfully does not thread through G string but rather has a nylon bolt. to affix to tail piece. It reasonably priced also.

Bang for the buck is insane
Super easy to install, sounds huge, MUST be used with very high impedance preamp input. I have had URB pickups from fishman (did not like), Underwood (loved) and k&k (Loved). This pickup is definitely in the class of the k&k and Underwood pickups. The only things I would have wanted different would have been a metal jack instead of a molded plastic one, and I like the jacks that grab onto the strings instead of screw onto the string slot. I also would have preferred a more robust mounting screw, the plastic one included beds with hand pressure. Not a big deal though. Certainly for the approximately 60% of what a k&k costs, I can live with that compromise. I have tried this with a few different bass amps and preamps. Using a somewhat low impedance microphone input kills all the bass and most of the treble, but using an input impedance of one meg ohm or greater really makes this come alive. Tons of low end, manageable highs, very usable and focused mid-range.

I have had it literally hours and it's perfect. Owning similar ones, twice the price or more in the past, this one sounds as good or better. Some have said it's a little fragile. Take the time to set it up and away you go. And for the price, if you are a gig'n musician, buy a backup and keep it in the box in your case.
