Braille for the Sighted (Grade one + Grade two): A course in contracted braille Review: Outstanding Book - As someone who is legally blind and learning Braille, I bought this book for my Wife and Grandson. It lays out Grade 1 uncontracted Braille and the Grade 2 Contracted Braille that we in the blind community use to read. Book is well written and laid out in a manner that explains most of the “hows” and “whys” of Braille. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn Braille. You can learn from this book. Amazon print-on-demand, too much wasted space on pages.
The information is fine, but like other books that Amazon prints on demand, this one had a lot of wasted space on the pages. (Look inside the back cover. If it was printed the same day it was ordered, it's likely Amazon POD.) I do not need enormous 6-cell boxes to practice each letter or contraction. There are no answers in the back to check our work. The same info is presented more concisely in single page handouts that can be found online and downloaded free. But if you really need a book for home study or a class, this could be useful.

Families with a blind family member need to learn Braille.
I’m using this to help me learn to read Braille as my grandson is blind. He is learning Braille & soon he (with the help of mom) will be able to use a Braille writer to send me letters or sign my holiday cards. I also bought a Braille letter writer so I can send him letters & sign his holiday cards in Braille. This is a must have.

This book is very easy to use!

No good
A braille book with no actual samples of braille you could use to practice

Doesn’t have raised bumps to practice
It’s not a helpful book to practice feeling braille, which is what I wanted. The picture on the front of the book shows a hand feeling the raised bumps, but that’s false advertising. The book shows holes in ink only. Misleading. Returning it.

Shows only black dots…no raised letters
No actual raised examples

Beautiful, very useful, it would take a periodic publication

Very useful for someone learning Braille for the first time. Some errors though.

Update: Some information may be German Braille and not UEB (I was curious about the differences since I did the basic language course in Uni and had a PDF). Definitely use as a supplement book and not a main or only reference. It was the round brackets ( ) that were not UEB. ----------------------- Love the print size and layout of the lessons, along with the corresponding exercises to practice. Added bonus is the extra blank pages you could use a template to create more for endless practice with pen/pencil. However, some information is incorrect. So far I noticed (printing?) errors with the punctuation braille, so I would recommend using this as a practice workbook ONLY and buy another UEB braille book to use as a "Textbook". Or download the UEB braille PDF. I am using my 2nd UEB braille book with the PDF and websites to be absolutely sure I am not learning the wrong information now.

Poor quality print. No raised areas to learn from. Some sentences repeat directly after each other.
