Five star for lactate testing if used right
For lactate testing you have to follow a careful procedure, and I'd recommend looking at highnorth's article "Blood Lactate Testing: Protocols For Cyclists". It's especially important to clean your finger, gently squeeze the blood so you don't force intracellular fluid out, wipe away the drop and gently squeeze another (big) drop. You also need to make sure your test strips aren't expired. I've made over 30 tests, and only one gave an error message. All the others gave appropriate values. This is a much cheaper lactate meter than the alternatives, though a lot of the cost is in the strips. (I've included the results of one of my lactate tests as an example.)

Not working as Cholesterol monitor
I bought this for the single purpose - to monitor my cholesterol levels. Despite my best efforts to follow written and online manuals to the dot, results are totally off compared to the lab. They also aren't consistent in any way, they randomly different! But what is really bad here, they always coming as below the real level, telling me I am 3.8, way under the borderline, where I have a lab test done same morning and it tells me I am over 6! I did few attempts to compare this results to the lab, and they not even close, not once! So thinking maybe pack of strips is from the "bad batch" I ordered new one and - same thing. It could be faulty unit, but Amazon refused exchange offering refund only and as I am not going to spend any more money on that I could not try new unit. Bottom line, if you are looking for CHOLESTEROL monitor - avoid this unit, very expensive strips, very useless, dangerous even, as it may put you at great risk telling you that you are OK when you might be NOT.

Nice Product
This is a great product, however, I believe it is just slightly overpriced, especially when you have to pay a higher premium for the strips. If the cost was lower for both, I think this would be five stars.

Does the job
Ordered this to test lactate levels. Instructions good and it does the job.

Overpriced machine and strips
Great machine for blood glucose testing, and accurate too. However the ALL strips (glucose, lactate, cholesterol) are very expensive, virtually the same price as a machine. Not tried using strips for lactate, cholesterol etc. If using for just glucose, other machines and strips are cheaper and just a accurate

Lactate levels showing consistenly wrong values (very high compared to lab tests)
I don't recommend it at all to measure lactate levels. I bought it to test the lactate levels at rest and after exercise. Results are consistently highly variable and wrong. This tester showed values between 3.5 and 5.5 (at rest and on an empty stomach). This morning's lab test showed normal values (1.2, after having done exercise for two days in a row before the test).
