It’s light but rich!
Not like a beef stew flavor but more like a demi glace sauce flavor. I sometimes use it for the sauce over the hamburger as gravy, too. It’s a nice change from the beef stew.

Kudos Shipping From Japan
Bought this item could not find in local stores. Shipped all way from Japan. And you know what they did not charge a phenomenal amount like they do here in the U.S. for shipping etc. I paid I think like 8.00 a package got two very reasonable for item I could not locate here. Phenomenal Gravy!!! The best I have ever had and used in my stews and soups! Just takes a few weeks which is not a bother for something I want to keep in my pantry.

Quite nice
The sauce is a little thinner than I expected, but was easy enough to thicken a bit. It tastes good and is easy to cook, but I admit I expected a bit more tomato flavor. I intend to order it again, but next time I might try adding a bit of tomato paste for both the flavor and consistency.

Great
Rich and wonderful flavor. Its really easy to use since its a matter of just putting the roux blocks in.

So tasty!!
Amazingly tasty!!! Highly recommend, in flavor it reminds me a bit of Au Jus gravy, but with a more full and robust flavor. Will purchase again!

Tasty.
If you ever made japanese curry with the curry flavored roux, this works basically the same way, except you end up with quick roux thickened beef stew, with a sauce similar to demi-glace. All you need is some thinly sliced quick cooking beef and sliced onions. Serve over rice, preferably a japanese style of shirt grain rice. I like the Tamanishiki brand, of which I have bought about a dozen 15 pond bags over the last few years, but I haven’t tried too many other brands. Do not recommend Calrose rice, but I only trie it once. That was enough, and Tamanishiki is infinitely better in my opinion, though there are several other brands that, based on what I have read or heard, I wouldn’t hesitate to try if my regular brand was unavailable. Sorry for the tangent. In conclusion, S&B Tasty Hayashi Rice Sauce mix makes for a quick and great comfort food. The word hayashi comes from the French word hacker, like the word hash, as in hash browns, or corned beef hash, and related to the English hack, meaning finely chopped or cut up.
