AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll: The Ultimate Story of the World’s Greatest Rock-and-Roll Band – A Complete Biography with Rare Intimate Photos and Behind-the-Scenes Access

I discovered AC/DC back in college (circa 1988). Since then I've gotten all their albums and done a fair bit of reading on the group. Maximum Rock N'Roll (to this point) is the most in-depth look at the group that I've come across. The book checks in at 460+ pages with numerous black & white and color photos to liven up sections. There's some excellent pictures of old backstage passes, concert flyers, etc... to remind you of just how long the members of AC/DC have been rocking and rolling. The authors deliver a solid rundown of the band's history and albums are covered in each chapter taking us from High Voltage all the way to Stuff Upper Lip. In reading other reviews I do notice many people wonder why the band's personal lives have been glossed over at points to focus more on the music. My first understanding upon reading is that not every band has as many demons as say Motley Crue or Guns N Roses so perhaps the home lives of lazy Brian or tea-totaling Angus aren't all that exciting compared to the concerts and albums. This is evident in that 65% of the book chronicles the band's early years and the colorful life of Bon Scott (clearly more of a character 24/7 than Brian Johnson) than their post 1980 years. All I know is while reading the book I had the desire to listen to my iPod's in-depth collection of DC songs...LOUD. This book is an informative read and will make you WANT to listen and appreciate the solid rock and roll from the Thunder from Down Under for quite some time!

If you even slightly enjoy AC/DC (my wife and I are fanatics about them) you'll learn more about this powerhouse band than you ever thought imaginable. This book gives insight into the band like no other. From the very early days to the recent years, every significant event (and many, many insignificant) is explained in great detail. I learned more in the first few chapters about the brothers Young than I thought possible. The included photos are plentiful, especially those of Bon. The tour details show exactly how much of a no-nonsense, don't mess with us group that these guys are. They just want to play good rock and roll and do so in the loudest manner possible. The effort put into this book goes beyond those of a couple of fans, these guys eat, breathe and live AC/DC. This was an easy read that I just couldn't put down, I finished it in 2 days and my wife finished it in 3. Every waking minute I had to be reading it. I actually felt as though I was living an accelerated life as a member of the band from the beginning. The review may sound cheesy, but I'm telling you, this is a great book.

At last,a professionally done book on one of the World's Greatest Bands!There have been several books done previously,but none have been crafted this well.You can tell that this is the work of true professionals simply by the look of the book.Not only is it a thick hardcover,but the way the text is designed is very professional as well.I'm sure that this is the definitive biography of AC/DC and one that the band themselves are proud of.I really hope that there's a good sized market out there for this book.It seems to me nowadays that AC/DC appeals mainly to teenagers who probably wouldn't be interested in reading about them.Some people might say that their appeal to teens is because their music is simplistic and not appreciated by more mature people,but I'd like to think it's because they really did craft timeless rock and it's great that they're still popular among young people.I'm 37 and AC/DC's music will never lose it's appeal to me.Despite their international success,it seems too often that they've gotten too little respect over the years and it's nice to see a book that finally takes them seriously.I'm so glad that I own a copy.

Yes, it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock & roll. It's very hard to put this book down after you start reading it, it's that good. I read 3 chapters the first night I got it. A very well writen book, with very nice pictures too. I think anyone who is going to get into the music field should read this, cause it truely is harder than it looks. I will be saving this book so my grand-kids can read it, so they can just see what it's going to take to play in a rock & roll band. ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE READ THIS YEAR. Reading this book was like taking a trip back in time, I can remember the first time I heard AC/DC, I knew they were going to rock the world and they did. Being a musician back in the day, I knew they had that speical something that it takes to make it. I just wish I could have seen them live, but I didn't, and so I got the book to find out the truth about one of the greatest bands on the planet. If you like real rock & roll stories this is a must read, cause it's one of the best. I might read it twice, it's that good. If you don't know the crazy story of ACDC, this is a great way to get it. Obviously, it won't give you all the details about their past but it talks a lot about how they got together and how they continued to make music and how some of their live shows went. It also goes through a lot of the tragic moments with the bands. Overall, just a really good read that I would recommend to rock lovers.

This is written by a fan of the band. Some people might not like how it's so positive but why would anyone be reading this if they're not a fan themselves? I really enjoyed it although I felt the Brian Johnson period was rather glossed over. Someone is missing a trick here, there's plenty of fans out there who'd like to read more about that second era of the band. But overall this was a brilliant read, with some funny stories and good photos. Highly recommended!

Très bon livre, se lit comme un roman. Une histoire très complète sur un des plus grand groupe de rock de l'histoire. Il permet de se rendre compte de la difficulté pour les groupes de percer et de commencer à gagner un peu d'argent. Meme en 1979, AC/DC devait encore faire attention à ce qu'ils dépensaient ! Un regret cependant, le livre ne parle quasiment pas de Phil et Cliff.

This is a great book and very interesting

For the die hard fan this the best, most accurate book out there. Believe me, I've read them all. This may be too detailed for a regular reader, but it has everything you need know, well written and honest.
