Nice Bates Shoes - Tan Looks Great!
Here's what I've been wearing around for the last few days! They are comfortable or I wouldn't be wearing them. Right out of the box, I put these on and started wearing them around the house. It felt like I had nothing on my feet. Of course, I've been wearing 8" high Bates side zip boots for quite a while so these shoes would naturally feel light. They feel much lighter. I don't mind not having side zips which I wouldn't expect in a shoe any way! These fit great on my feet. I like that the sides and heel seem pretty ridged. I have a tendency to just stuff my foot in my footwear, and sometimes they don't stand up to that kind of treatment. These shoes seem to be made for that. I have the original inserts and they feel pretty good. I was out running around all day yesterday and I don't have any sore spots on my feet or anything that feels like it could be a problem. That means I'll be wearing these all the time. Very, very nice pair of what I call athletic shoes. I got mine in the sand or tan color and they look pretty great with jeans. One small problem. The dang shoe laces are about four inches on each side too short! They measured out to 56" but should have been about 64". I replaced mine with some tan paracord I had around the house. Might want to pickup some longer shoelaces if you buy these which I highly recommend. One more thing. These were shipped via US Mail by BargainsPlusMore, an Amazon MarketPlace Vendor. I wasn't initially impressed with using the US Mail because I've had trouble getting stuff delivered to my house. But, somehow they got these shoes delivered on Tuesday after my Saturday order and delivered directly to my house! Way to go! Good job!

A work shoe
Size 14. It feels like a boot. That is to say the soles are firm, not compliant. Also, as stated there is no arch support nor cushion at all so you most certainly will need to add your best arch support. For true support insoles (not the cheap pharmacy brands) that could add as much as 30$ to the cost of the shoe. I added a pair of Powerstep in addition to the Bates insoles. For that price, you might want to consider just purchasing a similar styled athletic shoe. Make no mistake, this is a work shoe, not one for any sort of athletic activity. Nevertheless, these do appear to be well constructed, and look a good 20% smaller than my previous Timberland boots of the same size.Pros: Small on the outside, roomy on the inside. More casual than traditional work shoes.Cons: Firm non-compliant soles, no arch support.

Zero Mass?
I just received these shoes and while they are somewhat light weight for a boot; they are far from "Zero Mass" for Cross Training applications. They are a lot heavier than the majority of similar shoes that I've owned. They seem fairly comfortable but; do run a bit on the large/wide side. The Care Instructions advise the user to, "Rotate footwear every other day to extend service life". Huh? Why not wear them once per week? They'll last forever. They also instruct to, "Apply specific products to ensure long life and suppleness of the upper" but; also caution , "Do not use outside edge dressing; the chemicals could damage the footwear upper".Seems like a lot of tender loving care is required to maintain a shoe from a company with a reputation as a 'work' shoe supplier. One additional comment. Bates 'HONOR BOUND' but; made in China.

These shoes are cheap and not worth 20 bucks. They are extremely noisy when you walk in them and if you are in LE or Security the perp will hear you coming two blocks away when you take a step and the shoe bends in make a loud clopping noise like bending a piece of hard plastic. For those of you who are older like the old cheap tennis shoes from the 70's They provide little heal support and after about an hour you feel it.

Most uncomfortable shoes I have worn in 46 years.
Horribly uncomfortable. Hard, stiff soles. Even more so than other "service" boots I've worn in the past. I am talking 'cowboy-boot-hard' soles. Even trying with three different store-bought insoles, they still make my heels feel like they had been beaten with hammers all day. On hard floors, I can hear the "clop, clop" that sounds like women's high heel shoes.Also. don't be fooled by the cloth in these. They do no breathe at all. I put my hand in them and blow against the fabric and can't feel anything coming through. Imagine rubber boots with wooden soles and you will have an idea of what these feel like on your feet.

Purchased the wide and the width was excellent. Very comfortable shoe
Shoe ran a half size too long. Purchased the wide and the width was excellent. Very comfortable shoe. The only negative is that the shoes make a faint "fop" sound with every step. That's not good for a "tactical" shoe.UPDATE. Reduced to 2 stars as the darn "fopping" noise got louder and louder, the longer I wore them. Very annoying.

Surprisingly durable shoes.
Great pair of shoes. When I first purchased these shoes I thought they were a little steep in price, however I no longer think that because they feel pretty comfortable and seem to be pretty durable especially considering the fact that I wear them on a daily basis for everything I do which includes a couple of hours of tennis a week. They are surprisingly light. Only thing that doesn't really seem to be that durable would be the shoelaces, but who cares if they do tear up I can just buy new laces/ boot strings for $3 tops. Overall I consider these shoes to be among some of the best I have purchased.

SHOES/ BIG FOOT
It was not my intent to infer that it is not a great shoe. I love the look and quality of the shoe. I am 6"5' and wear a 14D shoe. I usually order a 14 w just for more comfort. The shoes I received stated 14w but when I put them on they were a little snug . Shoes sizes depending on their place of orgion will vary. I would like to see someone specialize in quality shoes from dress to sports in size 13 and up as the population of people in the USA are seeking quality, Affordable, attractive shoes ( people with healthy feet know the bigger as the size increases, selection decreases and the shoes become unattractive ) Good luck the my brothers and sisters with healthy feet. :(
