Holds a 9 3/4" x 7 1/2" sized notebook (included) 96 lined pages Made from top-grain cowhide Machine stitched seam How to get a rugged patina. The oils from your skin shape the patina's look over time. So go ahead. Handle it. Using chemicals will weaken the leather. Be patient. Its ruggedness will grow in character with you. Don't be afraid of a scuff. Lick your finger. Rub it in. Avoid leaving leather in direct sunlight or extreme heat. We recommend Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam for additional leather conditioning.

Beautiful and Rugged Notebook Cover
I purchased this notebook with the intention of having something a bit more classy and professional for use during meetings. Some of the reviews presented a bit of a mixed message, so I approached this with the hope of it checking off all of the boxes but with ample uncertainty as to the quality. I can say I am very pleasantly surprised! The leather on my cover is very supple. I would say that it is firm enough to function as a writing surface when held, but there is definitely some flex and bend to it. Although slightly more rigidity wouldn't be unwelcome, I would much prefer erring on the side of pliable versus a cover that is too stiff. Yes, the leather is going to scuff and absorb oils through regular use. That's OK - the natural and more rugged look is exactly what I was looking for. I found the stitching to be excellent quality, too.An absolute necessity for me was the ability to refill the paper. So many of the covers I looked at have pages stitched to them and, although nice for certain purposes, that was not at all what I was seeking. This notebook comes with good quality paper but can easily have a fresh notebook inserted when the time comes (whether purchased through Rustico or using something more standard - such as a normal Mead composition book or the extra large Moleskine option. That the cover can be refilled with more common notebooks is a huge benefit for me - I greatly appreciate that versatility. One point that I struggled to find an answer for in previous reviews was what the inside of the cover offered. Obviously it has flaps to hold a notebook's cover in place, but were there pockets for things like loose papers, business cards, or perhaps a loop for a writing utensil? I can now say that there are not. This is very basic in that regard - you are literally getting just a notebook cover with an included paper insert. You can fold paper and tuck it into either the front or back cover's pockets (they come in maybe 1.75-2" from the edge) but there is no formal built-in storage option included with this cover. Again not a problem for me - I just wanted entirely certain what to expect in that regard. Finally - there is one addition that I think would be highly valuable for anyone with this notebook - a place-marking ribbon. An easy solution for this would be to just adhere a thin ribbon to the notebook so you can drape it across whatever page you wish. However, I think it would be a cool enhancement for Rustico to maybe look at building something into their design for future versions that can be a more permanent solution in that area.

I'm a sucker for fine leather products
Ordered March 5, 2015 and as of Aug 2017 it's still bleeding onto the paper!Fortunately all I have in it is a notepad but sweet mother of tannins this thing was loaded up.Now because I paid $50 for a fancy notebook cover that is still doing this over 2 years later, I'm deducting only a star and I feel that's rather generous to the seller. But based solely on outward appearance it's not a 3 star product so that wouldn't be entirely fair.I think in another year when it's completely done bleeding it's going to be a very, very nice product that should last me for several years. But for what it is, $50 is a wee bit steep. But like the title says, I'm a sucker for fine leather products.Pics take Aug 2017. Those memo books were put in sometime this summer so after the 2yr mark.

Simple Solution Makes it Perfect
This is a very fine leather cover with a minor issue. The five pieces of leather that are used to make this cover are 3/32nds of an inch thick. That means the inner sleeves will make a vertical bump a 1/4 inch inside the left margin line if you like to write on both sides of the paper. Simply take the back cardboard cover off of a cheap notebook and trim it to size. The problem is solved. It also makes a convenient page marker. All of the five star reviews about this product are true, so there is no need to say much more. I, like so many others, am very pleased with this extremely well made cover.

Classy All the Way Around
Just arrived in the last hour. It appears to be a quality leather-good. Fits the standard composition notebook I use for journaling snugly, but without bending. Much thicker, softer, and higher-quality leather than I expected. Only slight transfer of tanning to the included notebook, not the excessive leeching described in other reviews. Also contrary to some other reviews, there is only the slightest slant to the top stitching left to right (cover, mirrored on the back), but nothing of concern regarding fit or quality - I take it as a sign that a human actually made it.From quality to customer care, I am very impressed with this company overall. I cannot wait to order a binder cover to replace the spiral notebooks I've been using at work for years.

Love it.
Great product. True leather. Smells awesome (if you like the smell of leather). It's high quality but has casual feel/appearance. Supple to the touch and doesn't have a "slick finish" to it.I started to keep a journal about my two boys - for both them and us - because I started noticing towards the end of the first kid's year that there were things that had happened that I had already forgotten (that, at the time, I thought I'd never forget).Wife said she hated seeing the "eyesore" of the composition journal sitting out, so I told her I wanted a leather cover for it. She went to NY with friends the next week and was bound and determined to find something that fit the bill in one of the numerous shops around there. She said she spent hours looking but was never truly happy with anything she found.I looked on here and found this. We ordered it and after receiving it, she claimed she never found anything near as perfect as this cover in all her searching up there.Love it for what I intended it for.

Great composition book cover
I'm an engineer and for years have been using grid lined composition books for taking notes and for simple drawings and plots I need to sketch from time to time. A lot of my peers also use composition books for notes because they are inexpensive and when it's full you just throw it on the book shelf and get another one. But I didn't really like the traditional mottled look, whether in classic black or the other colors that are available these days. This cover gives my book a touch of class and sets it apart from everyone else's books. Also I can tuck a few loose sheets of paper into the inside of the cover for safe keeping.
