I, The Jury - Special Limited Edition

Excellent release for Spillane fans
This is an excellent blu-ray, with a great restoration of the film, good 3D (I really hope my 3D TV lasts a few more years!), and really interesting extras. I’m so glad to see the commentary by 81 year old Biff Elliott (recorded by his nephew and previously on YouTube) get an official release. Elliot was a pro, and for my money one of the best portrayers of volatile Mike Hammer, despite his Boston accent. He doesn’t hold back on the commentary either, which makes for interesting listening. This is an under appreciated film, and the 3D presentation explains some of the shots that seem a little odd in 2D. With 3D TVs on the decline though, it’s still well worth watching in 2D.

First Official Release!
I've loved this movie since I first saw it in 3D in 1953. It's as faithful to the book as was possible in 1953. Dance lessons in a building with individual rooms staffed by young beautiful girls. SURE! Mambo anyone? This is one of most noirish of noirish films. The black and white cinematography is magnificent. Biff Elliot makes a tough, intense Mike Hammer. The women are beautiful and sexy. The violence really pushes the limits for the time. Body count: seven. This is not a four star movie but i think it deserves three.I do not have 3D equipment, but that didn't keep me from making the purchase. The BluRay is jam packed with extras. Commentaries, a documentary on 3D, an interview with Biff Elliot from the 1980s and three early television programs starring/co-starring each of the film's three stars. WOW! What a package!

A lost 3D film returns.
While not a great Noir title, "I, the Jury" is a tight low budget thriller. And the use of 3D really gives the film an extra punch. The transfer is not perfect (The opening Titles are seemingly out of alignment as it the left and right images were switched. But the remainder of the film is stunning. Actor Biff Elliot makes an interesting over the top Mike Hammer. You fully expect him to blow his top at any minute. While it might be an singularly "devour the scene" performance, Elliot is charming and for some strange reason his take on Mike Hammer almost works.Director Harry Essex manages some really nice cinematic touches in this film, remarkable on the measly budget. The saving grace here is the absolutely stunning cinematography by John Alton. This being his only 3D effort, it is remarkable what he achieved. His use of depth here, is as fascinating and his use of shadow and light.A minor cult classic, the lives and plays much better in 3D than it does flat. For those so inclined, this disc is a keeper!

I bought this as gift for a hard to by for cinephile.
I have a friend who is a avid home video collector. The trouble is he buys almost anything he wants. This is not only a film he enjoyed but one he didn’t even know about. It made a perfect gift. Anyone who isn’t familiar with Mikey Spillane should give it a try.

A Great Release!
This release of I, THE JURY looks fantastic. I wish I had a 3D TV to watch it. I bought this film because 1) I've always wanted to see it and 2) to support more releases like it.This version of Mike Hammer may not be to some people's liking but I found it to be incredibly entertaining. I'm a big fan of Peggie Castle as well and she is incredible in this.

A very good 3d blueray
The 3d is very good although there's not a lot of things coming out of the screen. The depth is really good. I'm not crazy about the choice of actor to portray Mike Hammer. A bit too much of the pretty boy for my taste. The story doesn't help him with Hammer leaving his star witness alone with one of the suspects. That's dumber than most slasher victims. There's a number of extras including a Hammer pilot that was cancelled at the last moment by the CBS president. Brian Keith is a little better as Hammer and he is certainly smarter setting it up so one of the goons kills the head guy who doesn't carry a gun and then can take out the goon and claim self defence.

Superb 3D ... a good movie.
I really enjoyed this; the 3D is wonderfully effective and the cinematographer's 3D composition is peerless. The cast is good, if a bit over enthusiastic for the lead role; the twins are INCREDIBLE!!!For any Blade Runner fans; I'm convinced that the apartment in the Bradbury building seen here is the exact same as used for J.F.Sebastian in Blade Runner!
