Like J-Horror? Like Freddy vs Jason? Here you go!
Sadako vs Kayako has all the melodrama and tension of the individual Ringu and Ju-On and is filmed brilliantly.Ju-On films are filmed in "broken scenarios." Basically, there are a selection of main characters, and you see pieces of their story told in a cycle (some of this character, some of that character, some of a third, back to the first, skip to the third, etc.). There is a sense of hostility beyond the "uh-oh horror" atmosphere, like you know these characters are really going to suffer something awful.Ringu films, by contrast given the "running out of time" nature of the films, are very linear, focus on a few select characters, and include incredible amounts of rather tense but sometimes over-dramatic melodrama. There's a sense of dread in these movies rather than hostility, like while you know these characters are going to die, it's not any worse than in any other horror. This film expertly combines both. You have snippets of some characters but there's a clear focus on a small cast. There's incredibly dull melodrama on the Ringu portion and hostility on the Ju-On portion. The film is very linear, but you cut from character to character. And of course there's a distinct focus between the two until the very end, which is when the two famous ghost story movies combine. And just like in each of their respective movies, you get an ending you would come to expect from either one of them. However, this movie is for fans of either franchise. I would not recommend it to someone who only saw maybe one film from either or both series. Amazingly, I actually consider this to be VERY faithful to the original movies in each series and significantly better than the most recent iterations of them (Ju-On The Grudge Live Action The Final What a Stupid Name, Sadako 3D Starring Spider Lady, etc.). And as it's not beginner (to either franchise) friendly, you're NOT going to get any real backstory except a very quick blurb "Hey yeah this happened" that you can miss.Only one complaint, but it's not enough to knock it down a star and has to do with the translation. Some might even say it adds to the camp if they find this movie campy (which I can see that for sure):During a certain sequence, there's some exorcism going on. The translation has, what the heck, Harry Potter spells thrown in. It really breaks from the atmosphere, since you're going to see every single one from Expelliarmus to Protego to Avada Kedavra. I'm not sure why this was done, but you might find it funny; I found it a bit lacking and unprofessional.Regardless, this is a solid entry in the "X vs Y" theme of horror movies. I would recommend this to any fan in a heartbeat, and I would easily recommend it over the latest entries in either series. As for the film itself, the quality is fine. Expect a lot of blue reflections on black hair because of the stage and lighting used to shoot the movie. The movie started off very quiet for me, but volume normalized itself pretty quickly, so maybe it was just my surround sound. No real grain on the picture, either. I fully believe this film was made with love.

A great modern example of Japanese horror
If you come to this movie expecting things from the American remakes, it wont happen. In my opinion it stays true to each of their respective franchises. While French, Korean, and American horror films like to show plenty of gore, Japanese films always show a great amount of restraint. I respect them for that, and this film sticks to tension more than gore. Overall, I think its a good film. Do Sadako and Kayako face off? They sure do!! And its pretty creepy...... Stick around after the credits

Ignore bad reviews. LOVED IT. UNDERRATED.
It's a genuinely scary slow burn horror movie that leads to Marvel level horror gags for people who know the mythology of the ghosts.I laughed, I screamed, I panicked, I loved it.Nightmares, here I come.

Excellent Horror Film, fun, scary, & cool!
Inventive film, havent had this much fun watching a horror film in a long time, the cast is amazing, the cinematography, but most importantly the writing! Fantastic visionary take on supernatural horror! This film proves that creative writing is more important than mindless gore & crassness every time, Whoever the team behind this production,More please!

You Got Ring in My Grudge! You Got Grudge in My Ring!
This was a fun movie, but I would expect nothing less from a film that came about due to an April Fools Day joke. Nevertheless be aware that, like most VS movies, the two monsters (or lady ghosts in this case) don't actually fight until the end of the movie. The fight is very cool though and has an unexpected outcome that left me curious how they will deal with it going forward into a possible sequel.

A fun movie...not necessarily a good movie.
I absolutely loved this movie. I can’t say it’s a GOOD movie. The plot was rather predictable and cheesy, the CG was not well-done, and Sadako’s hair tentacles were not the least bit believable. Sadako vs. Kayako DOES have the cheesy awesomeness that I was hoping for, and I found it thoroughly entertaining. If you’ve enjoyed most incarnations of the Ring and Grudge series so far, you’ll probably enjoy Sadako vs. Kayako.

I really enjoyed it! I have no idea what I just saw, but I enjoyed it!
Five stars for the most baffling horror clash I have ever seen in my life. J-Horror--well. This is definitely that. I really enjoyed it. I have no idea what on earth I just saw (and believe me, I speak the language. This isn't a matter of comprehending dialogue or premise), but I enjoyed it. Leave logic at the door, and enjoy the well-made horrific nonsense!

Personally I loved it. It's the Japanese version of Freddy vs Jason. It's fun to watch. Anyone expecting more just don't know a spoof when they see it. It's just a fun movie. I'm pretty sure no one was expecting a golden globe but I'm a fan and in the end that's all that matters.

Greatest Movie of All Time
The phrase "Greatest Movie of All Time" gets used enough that some of it's meaning is lost but seriously, Greatest Movie of All Time!
