Hailing from Chicago, Fall Out Boy - Patrick Stump (vocals/guitar), Pete Wentz (bass), Joe Trohman (guitar) and Andy Hurley (drums) - are back with their sixth studio album ‘American Beauty/American Psycho’. It is the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s fifth studio album ‘Save Rock and Roll’.The album includes the singles ‘Centuries’ and ‘American Beauty/American Psycho’, plus the track ‘Immortals’.The album contains 11 tracks, and the CD comes with a 12 page booklet in a soft pack. Review: That difficult second post-hiatus album? Not even slightly. - So FOB are back with the follow up to their comeback album Save Rock and Roll. Its both less and more than that album. Less obviously experimental in terms of their sound, less angry, but crucially less conflicted and less divisive, and simultaneously more subtly experimental and more like themselves. Couple that with Wentz' lyrics being far superior to those of SRR, Patricks voice being back in the groove and the rest of the band sounding like 1 unit again and its quite possible the best FOB album ever. If there is still slightly less obvious humour in the lyrics than the pre-hiatus material the content is hugely more mature without losing that sense of fun that FOB have always possessed. The triumph of this album is that although there are 3-4 standout potential singles, you can make a case for 90% of the tracks being single contenders - the average standard is really that high. Add in the fact that they have gone fairly sample heavy and musically eclectic without it being intrusive to the FOB sound and this album is possibly their finest and most consistent ever straddling Pop and Rock like no-one else can. Recommended for die hards and newcomers alike - the only people that might be slightly put off are those who thought Save Rock and Roll was entirely representative of FOB. If that was their awkward teenager this is their assured, rightly arrogant twenty something. Review: Great Album <3 - Great follow up album to 'Save rock and roll' which in my opinion is still the best FOB album but now only just. I have loved FOB for around 10 years and I know alot of people say they don't like the direction they have gone in but I personally love how they have evolved their sound. They are producing amazing anthems with a variety of styles. The best song on the album for me is Uma Thurman- I love the munsters theme tune mixed in there- genious!! I actually love all the songs apart from the albums namesake American Beauty which I'm not over keen on although weirdly its the one stuck in my head so it may grow on me. I'd 100% reccommend this to any fan, you won't be dissapointed. Great job FOB you've done it again, hope to see you on tour in October! X

You won't be disappointed
I find that there are three types of FOB fans: 1) The ones that prefer the old music 2) Ones that prefer the new music 3) The ones that like all of it. I find myself in category 3. I have enjoyed all of their albums and so this one was not a disappointment. There is a great mix of songs, Patrick's vocals are incredible and the music itself is spot on. I know a lot of people have said that they've gone a bit mainstream, and that this album is a little too much pop than rock, but I recommend giving it a try - you won't be disappointed!

Fallout Boy keeps on impressing
American beauty/American psycho is Fallout boy's sixth studio album released on January 16th 2015. It's the second Fallout boy album I've owned after purchasing Save rock n roll last year, which was an impressive album. That album had some dance oriented tracks in it but it stayed mostly true to the instrumental basis this band was known for on their early records. This album strays away from the guitar sound more, into more of a dance/electronica based album with the use of samples on some of the tracks. The band's guitarist described this album as having "more in your face guitar than Save rock n roll". The guitar present is maybe sometimes more memorable than on the last album, but that's possibly because there isn't a lot of it used, but when it is used it can be very effective, such as 'The Munster's' theme tune on Uma Thurman. Some of the fans haven't taken too well to this album and I understand why because it is far away from their older stuff, but at the same time it is Fallout boy and it has that attitude all over this. The outer artwork is comprised of a few images of a boy in vaguely American patriotic style, which contrasts with the inner art which looks like ice formations. The case for this album is again in the cardboard layout style. This opens out like a book with just two sides and in the process of taking out the CD I've already torn mine. Bring back CD cases! Irresistible gets us started with a prominent dance pop/rock sound which continues in this album with big trumpets in the verse and hard hitting vocals with Stump proclaiming "I love the way you hurt me, baby". The lyrics and attitude are filled with angst which follows through. The title track is one of the most memorable with its trance sound and repetitive lyrics. Centuries is one of the best with big vocals and a catchy rhythm and a solid chorus. The band described this as an inspirational track. The kids aren't alright comes in with a more mellow sound in the verses and builds into a big, thoughtful chorus. It's a switch down in tempo and a welcome change. Uma Thurman is my favourite on the album because it's catchy, punky and The Munster's guitar tune gives it a surf rock feel amongst the trumpets which is awesome. I really like the cool narrative of Jet pack blues with a tale of a strained relationship, with atmospheric verses and an upbeat melodic chorus. Novocaine is more in the style of the title track with an aggressive sound and lyrics to match, although the bridge is quite easy and sweet. Fourth of July is one of the best and also one of the most consistently upbeat in a more pop style. The catchy sound and lyrics are quite uplifting even though it's about the end of a relationship. Favourite record has a great groove with cool verses filled with nostalgic lyrics. The use of a robotic voice in the hook is interesting. This also features a familiar "Oh, wo-oah" reminiscent of a couple of tracks from SRAR. Immortals is one of my favourites with the verses full of cool attitude and smart lyrics and the chorus is huge and so catchy with such a great melody. Twin skeletons (Hotel in NYC) ends the album well with a decent guitar fill, contrasting layers of sound, from mellow at the start to that assertive up front attitude (almost irate) in the verses, and the chorus is quite relaxed. The somewhat creepy sound in the middle 8 and the end sets this apart in terms of mood and ends the album on a sober tone. Patrick Stump said about the album "Some people will love it. Some people will hate it. The four of us like it a lot, so we're happy". That's an honest statement for an album which was an attempt at expanding the rock genre. Judge for yourself. I am a fan and I commend these guys for taking a risk to expand their sound.

I wasn't sure of the whole concept of this album to start with. I bought the album because I loved some of the tracks that I'd heard on the radio, like 'American Beauty/American Psycho' with it's relentless energy and drive; and 'Uma Thurman' with the clever arrangement of the riffs and catchy lyrics. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. It's daring, clever and doesn't fail to acknowledge the roots of some of the themes, for example the inclusion of Suzanne Vega. This album is an absolute triumph, if you're not convinced on the first hearing (like me), listen to it at least twice more - then you'll be hooked.
