Credibility: How Leaders Gain and Lose It, Why People Demand It (J-B Leadership Challenge: Kouzes/Posner) Review: Easy to read and very interesting - Easy to read and very interesting. I love how the author explains the different leadership qualities that are viewed as important around the world. I think everyone in a leadership position should read this book as it helps to guide self reflection in order to incorporate positive leadership qualities into current practices. It also provides insight into other culture, their views on important characteristics in their leaders, and how leadership is viewed overall. Well written and engaging. Highly recommend! Review: What I read was good, so I can't fault the book - My boss had me buy 8 copies so she, my peers, and I could all read this and have group discussions. She probably should have just bought one and read it herself. We never got past chapter 4 and we only met to discuss the book 2 times. Then it was decided that we had more important things to do than reading a book...therefore losing credibility. What I read was good, so I can't fault the book...have to give it 5 stars.

Good ideas on leadership.
When you have to read this book for work, it's much easier to listen to it. Just saying!! The philosophy behind the book is great and you will find yourself trying to implement their ideas. It's not hard to improve as a leader. It just takes a little bit of effort. Now if only everyone in a leadership position took this advice to heart!

Required for a class. One of the less painful reads. I don't need a book to tell me not to be a jerk, tell the truth, follow through and people will respect me - and therefore I'll have credibility. But, whatever, I did need the three college credits....

Timely and much needed!
Although this book was first written over 20 years ago it is as fresh and current as if it was written today. I recommend this book to any leader or would be leader who wants to lead the way into the future by exemplifying greatness. A must read for any manager at all levels.

Nothing new under the sun
My boss recommended this book so I gave it a shot and read it as an elective book for a course in my master's degree program. It's a perfectly fine book on leadership though I don't find that there is anything new or Earth-shattering about it. It's full of the same theories and concepts as almost every other leadership book on the market but the difference is using the term "credibility." It wasn't a waste of time to read but I didn't come away with anything spectacular to talk about or use in my daily work.

I got into this book immediately, and found the message clear and authoritative. The authors believe that credibility, that gift of inspiring and retaining loyalty, are at the bottom of the finest examples of leadership - no matter what your profession or trade. There are chapters on how leadership is a two-way relationship, why 'credibility' makes a difference, the secret of discovering yourself, affirming shared values, developing capacity, sustaining hope and the struggle to be human. Each of these concepts is explained in clear, obvious ways - for example, 'leadership is a relationship because you can't follow someone who isn't credible, who doesn't truly believe in what they're doing and how they're doing it.' If you've been on the scene for a while in business, then you'll probably remember this book from years ago - it's the same one, but thoroughly updated in a clear, no-nonsense format, and absolutely current for now. For those who are studying formally, every quote and statistic is properly referenced. For those who are putting it into practice, there are key summaries at the end of every chapter. The book is of sturdy design, and well laid-out with a clear type face and sufficient white space - suitable for those with a visual disability.

'Credibility' sounds like a horrible management buzzword, but it's really at the core of being perceived to be an effective leader, and this book details in a clear, entertaining and effective way, just how you generate and sustain credibility. Rather than being underpinned by anecdotes and 'gut-feeling', the lessons of the book are supported by quantitative as well as qualitative data. It delves into what people want to see in their leaders, and how those qualities can be nurtured through common-sense principles. It's well written, well argued, and has exactly that which it needs to be believable - credibility. I know that sounds like it's for senior managers and such in an organization, but really there's a lot in here for people in any kind of leadership position, even if it's just an ad-hoc leadership of a social circle.
