Perfect for Discus Care
Fluval Peat Granules have been a game-changer for my discus tank! These granules have gradually lowered my pH to the perfect level, creating an ideal environment for my discus. I love that the change was slow and steady, preventing any shock to my fish. In addition to stabilising pH, the granules also release beneficial tannins into the water. These tannins have not only enhanced the natural look of the tank but also seem to have boosted my discus’s immune system. Since using this product, my discus have been more active, vibrant, and appear to be thriving. If you’re looking for a natural, effective way to improve water parameters and support your discus’s health, I highly recommend Global Peat Granules. It’s a must-have for any serious discus keeper!

Effective media for softening aquarium water.
This is a very effective way of softening your water and making it a little more acidic. Using this product does add a little discolouration to the water but then most tanks are so bright the fish might actually be happier with it being a little darker. I use a small amount of this in my external filter and change it every 3 months (every 2 filter cleaning cycles). I think I'm right in believing this doesn't go well with active carbon. I personally use ceramic blocks, various sponges, (both for good bacteria and for removing larger debris) and ammonia remover media. My fish is a more obscure type of community aquarium and the fish seem to be happy with this setup.

Does it reduce PH
If you have plenty of time we get there. How much to use is guess work but of course results in dismantling canister or other to add more and so reduce media each time. FX6 nearly a basket full and still no PH down. A lot of work (rinsing, soaking each measured amount, bagging (messy, still a bit came out like hair when turn filter on and used 50 micron filter bag to house), dismantle filter(s), waiting to test) and monthly cost. I ended up getting fish to match the tap water!

Great for lower ph
Works a treat in my 60ltr shrimp tank was struggling with my PH was always at 7.8 so bought some small nylon bags filled half way with granules rinsed in water for 1min and hung it over the side with water filter flowing thru it and after 4days now PH is now down to 6.13...... getting to low now so will have to remove some of the granules. Hope this helps someone else. jon.

You’re missing out if you’re not using peat granules in media bags for your filter. Peat releases natural tannins that fish love to live in, resembles a natural environment vs trapped in a tank.

It's exactly what it says it is. I like the colour it gives the water and the smell. It works great for lowering the pH, you can put it in a little baggie of cheese cloth or something or let it soak loose in the water. (I would avoid leaving the peat in the water for too long as it may lower the pH more than you would prefer.) I use it to lower the pH in my aquariums. As I said, I really like the colour it gives the water and my fish like the lower pH. It's best to treat the water and take the peat out of the water before you add it to your aquarium, for a more consistent pH. If you leave too much peat in your aquariums or water of whatever sort, I believe that eventually the pH will eventually reach approximately 4.4 (if what google told me is true), which makes sense as I tested some in a jar of water overnight, the pH was lower than that of what my test kit could read.
