I like this grip on the cake tester. It is silicone moulded and easy to hold. It's also a good handy size.

Perfect for testing cakes or other baking goods. I use it all the time when I’m cooking meats to know the temperature when I don’t have a thermometer handy.

I bought this little guy because I was tired of throwing away toothpicks. It's a small thing, but it annoyed me! Then I read I was "always suppose to use wooden toothpicks to test cakes, as these metal picks wouldn't work correctly". Right then. So I started using my little metal pick with my wooden toothpicks standing by just in case. Much to my delight, this cake tester worked. If there was anything that would stick to a wooden toothpick, it also stuck to my "stainless steel wire and polypropylene" tester. The first couple of times I used both the toothpick and the tester to be sure. The results were the same each time. So I learned that you can choose to test your cakes with whichever instrument makes you happy, as they both work. Since my goal was to stop throwing toothpicks away, I have happily accomplished that. I usually wipe my tester clean with a soapy sponge as soon as I'm done using it. Wipe it dry with a towel, and put it back in the drawer. That way it doesn't run the risk of clanking around with other dishes or utensils and getting bent. I've also noticed two wonderful things in addition to the fact that this tester works as well as a toothpick: Thing one - The hole made in the cake is smaller with this tester than it is with a toothpick. Thing two - You can use this tester to pop the little bubbles that rise to the top of your batter after you've poured it in the pans and tapped the pans to make the batter settle and the bubbles rise to the top. It's delightful and therapeutic. My OCD self is quite happy with my purchase!
