Very thick material, but beware u will need to buy grip tape for the bottom, its really slippery, when used with Wood Floors, I tried flipping it both sides were slippery.. I had to buy carpet tape to tape down..

I bought two new 5 x 7 area rugs that did not have pads on them and they are not very thick. They came with recommendations to use a carpet pad so I purchased two of these pads for my rugs. I chose the 3/8 inch rug pads because I wanted some cushioning under them but I didn't want a pad that would be too thick and have my rugs look like they were sitting on top of a pad. The pads were very easy to unroll and they stayed fairly flat. There were some folds in them from being folded up in the package but the folds evened out after a while. I was happy because I did not have to trim the pads at all, they fit perfectly under my 5 x 7 rugs and provided the nice cushiony feel that I wanted. My rugs are under tables so I did not need to use any carpet tape to keep the pads in place and after a week, they have not slid or moved around. My area rugs are elevated a little bit due to the thicker pad but it isn't that noticable and I am very pleased with how they fit my area rugs and how nice it feels to walk on them.

The antislip underside of these pads do not grasp the floor surface, and the rugs reposition themselves with each step on them. Same for the surface that the rug sits on. The rug slides around on the pad's top. I thought perhaps this was characteristic of this type of rug pad until I had occasion to have an oriental rug company cut a pad of the same type for a newly purchased rug. That pad adheres to both the rug and the floor with no slippage. The rug pad I had professionally cut cost approximately the same as these Mohawk pads. Also (and this is no product flaw), if you plan to cut pads yourself to conform to a nonstandard rug dimension, regular scissors take forever and leave you with sore hands.

One star removed as the pad's long dimension was 9" short of the 7 ft. pad length ; the 5 ft. width was fine and I trimmed that width down easily with a pair of Singer 8.5" Pro Series scissors. This 3/8" pad gives decent cushioning though were I to do it over I'd have gone for the thicker 1/2", but this works OK for me. Pad was shipped folded inside clear plastic, laid quite flat right away, no problems with creases.

This simple rug pad took my basic Target rug and made it boujee. It feels so comfortable to walk on now and has definitely elevated the look of the rug. My children love to lay on it now because it is so soft underneath them. Highly recommend making this small investment both for extending the life of the rug and making it look so much nicer.
