Does the ink last for long?

This may not be helpful, but the ink lasts around half as long as in a non-refill pilot pen. I've hade mine for a couple of months and, so far, I'm only on the second cartridge.

is the ink in the cartridge identical to that of the originalpilot v5? Im thinking of just refilling the original with this ink.

You can't re-fill the original throwaway versions. Being honest I prefer to write with the older style ones and they have a lot more ink capacity than the cartridge versions. If you like the original throwaway version I would buy them
