A cheap, simple product that will help you sleep
Every so often you buy a product that you don't expect to like half as much as you do. This was the case with the pillow speaker. I often come to bed late and I found that when i was reading my ipad, I was waking up my girlfriend due to the light being emitted by the screen, even on the lowest setting. So, on a whim, i decided i would try out a pillow speaker and hook it up to my bedside radio. I came across this one due to the positive reviews and the price being offered by amazon. Before it arrived, I was a bit concerned that the noise of the speaker might wake up my partner (or rather she was concerned that it might). However, in practice, this has not been the case. I simply lodge the speaker in the middle between my two pillows, and it has never bothered her at all. I find it incredibly relaxing, listening to the radio as i drift off. I also plug it into my iphone and listen to some of my favourite programmes using the BBC radio iplayer app (You can set the timer on it, so that it switches off after a pre-set period of time, so its not wasting power overnight). In particular, the Women's Hour podcast on Radio 4 (it's not just for women) is fantastic for drifting off as its very much a magazine style format with really interesting interviews, and it doesnt have any blaring music that might wake my partner. If i had to suggest ways in which the pillow speaker could be improved, then making it a little bit slimmer would certainly be a benefit. And if the product could somehow be made out of some kind of flexible material (ideally, akin to some kind of flat, rubber pancake), then that would be fantastic, as sometimes with the current product, you occasionally find that you feel the hard plastic speaker under your ear, and you typically have to nudge your ear away a little bit so that its not pressed quite so closely over the speaker. But i should add, you don't ordinarily feel this at all when you have the speaker properly positioned under the pillow, so please don't let this dissuade you from buying. Lastly, to satisfy the inevitable question from audiophiles.... the sound quality is fine for the purpose it serves. ie you are typically listening to a programme in mono, at quiet volume, under a pillow, and with the express intention of not waking anyone else up. This speaker is not intended to provide CD-quality fidelity, but simply something to help you go to sleep. And it performs this last function admirably. All in all, a great product, which i'd gladly recommend to anyone.

Good value speaker
Had this speaker for a week now so decided to write a review. This is a nice little speaker but beware that it's volume is very low. I place it under the top pillow to listen to audiobooks while in bed. It was trial and error at first with regard to which device was best suited to it to get a decent volume output (the controls on the side of the speaker don't do much). My samsung phone and galaxy tab were useless, even at maximum volume and if you have a partner that snores-forget it! However my ipad air was very good at maximum volume but I had to buy an adapter for the headphone jack since the supplied jack didn't fit for some reason (though it fitted my husband's ordinary ipad). If you can be bothered to take all things things into account then this is one of the best non-bluetooth under-pillow speakers.

Better than expected.
I've been pleasantly surprised by how well this works. The first impression was that it was bigger than I'd anticipated but as long as your pillows aren't too thin this shouldn't be a problem. I use this because I like to have something to listen to as I drop off to sleep and my girlfriend hasn't complained yet so any noise leakage from under my pillow is minimal. The speaker has a good long cable on it so your source can easily be sat on a bedside table or on the floor next to the bed. It has 3 sound modes. 1 sounds good, 1 sounds good but has a bit too much bass for my liking and one sounds like you're listening underwater and seems useless as far as I can see. The sound you get it pretty good considering it's coming through a pillow. I will say that it's effectiveness does seem to vary depending on the pillow I use. I have one which is a standard hollow fibre pillow and the sound comes through really well. I have another which is a down imitation synthetic pillow which doesn't let the sound through quite as well, but it is still okay. Overall I'm very impressed and would recommend it.

Basic analog audio system, works differently depending on pillow stuffing. Overall works well. Negative: power source is taken away, draining your battery if used throughout the night. …..…which then requires additional purchases to make it fully functional. Bluetooth capability would be much better.
