Great addition to keeping woodturning tools sharp in conjunction with the Tormek protocol
I am a Woodturner and I have come to understand how valuable the Tormsek sharpening system is for he Woodturner. It enables the operator to sharpen the turning tool, like gouges, skews, bedans and other tools to a specific shape and return to the same settings creating identical turning tool shapes with not only the Tormek unit itself but with this item, along with the OWC-1 converter as well. This item, the BGM-100 can be mounted on the bench grinder base, but the addition of the OWC-1 converter (utilizing the OneWay Wolverine base) will enable the turner to reshape new and older tools to the newer and better shape, or enable the turner to resharpen the tool if the Tormek unit is unavailable, like working in an environment other the turners workshop.

Great quality, very sturdy, Tormek quality
I added this to my Tormek T8 as a vertical support arm to the front position, so that I can polish with the rotation of the wheel away, rather than into the wheel rotation. IMO the 4000 Japanese Water stone is just too soft to sharpen into the stone and it will chip if the knifes sharp edge cut into the surface .By placing this Jig on the lower front position you can now polish or grind with the wheel rotation with both vertical and horizontal adjustments. The threaded rods are size M12 and threaded into a piece of hard maple, using M12 thread cutter.Works great and eliminates the possibility of chipping that $500 plus super soft 4000 grit water stone.

Useful. Set it up carefully to suit YOUR grinder. NICE tool.
Used wiht the TOR-SE77 square edge tool holder, I instantly upped the accuracy and speed of my tool reshaping. THey are worth the price paid, but you need to take your time and practice on some cheap blades to become competent. The BGM100 takes some time and thought setting up, hence the 4 stars. First attempt: following the instructions strictly, I set mine up and it was too close to the stone (I kept hitting my fingers on the Delta grinder's quick release hub.) and not really well positioned. Second time, I took my time and set it up by feel and estimating how wide my widest blade will be, etc. Also playing with the adjustable height (Nice option!) was the ticket. This proved MUCH better and safer. NOTE: There IS a learning curve with these tools and if you are new to sharpening and reshaping (I am sort of a beginner), take your time and practice on something old or not precious. I do recommend an adjustable speed grinder if you can afford it. Delta makes a good one. ANd, the friable aluminum oxide wheels are far superior to the gray cheap ones that come with the grinder.

Worth It!
I needed a faster method of rough grinding lathe tools and plane blades. I have a Grizzly 10" wet grinder and several Tormek jigs which does fine on standard O1 plane blades, but doesn't like A2 or HSS plane blades. When I want to change a bevel angle, it takes forever. The wet grinder along with the leather strop do an excellent job on lathe tools, but it takes a while for major reshaping and cutting relief bevels. Heavy reshaping of lathe tools with the wet wheel also left pretty good furrows in the wheel which had to be dressed out.I thought I would try this out with the 6" bench grinder I wasn't using for anything. I just used a standard 60 grit grey wheel. I used the TT-50 diamond dressing jig to true the stone, the SE-76 for plane blades, the SVD-185 for some gouges, and the TTS-100 setting gauge I already had to set everything up. Using very light pressure and cooling the tools often by dipping in water, it worked great! I got a little greedy with the 1st plane blade and created a very narrow blue line at the edge, but by the time I had ground the bevel to where I wanted it, I had ground off the blue annealed material. Reshaping of lathe tools was a breeze, and I can take the tool still in the SVD-185 right to the wet grinder to get my final sharpening done.I'm sure I will find other uses around the shop for this set up whenever I need something a little more precise than hand held. When the standard wheel wears down I may get a more suitable replacement, but it works well as long as a light touch is used. It's certainly worth the $65 I paid for it.

Typical Tormek Quality!
I am a woodturner and have had my Tormek for many years. It will put a razor-sharp edge on just about anything, but I always had one complaint: It is really, really slow when initially shaping (or reshaping) a heavy turning tool. I had a dry grinder too, but could never "freehand" an edge close enough that it didn't require a lot of rework (and time) when I got to the Tormek.Enter the BGM-100. Installation requires building a support block to the left or right of your dry grinder. The exact placement and size of the block is dependent on the size of your grinder, so plan on studying the diagrams and doing some basic math. The instructions are a bit lacking here, but the diagrams are good. The installation instructions are online at Tormek's website if you want to review them before purchasing the kit.I installed this on a Woodcraft 8" slow-speed grinder with a Norton 80 grit SG wheel. Once installed, I tried out the BGM-100 with several spindle and bowl gouges (using the SVD-185 jig) and it worked perfectly. The same protrusion and jig setting presented the tool identically on the dry grinder and the Tormek, with the only shape difference being due to the different wheel diameter (8" on the dry grinder vs 10" on the Tormek). With the heavy work done on the dry grinder, I was able to move the tool (still in the jig!) directly to the Tormek and quickly finish the sharpening. It worked equally as well with roughing gouges and a large skew (both using the SVS-50 jig). This kit could also be used by someone who doesn't own a Tormek, but it would require purchasing the associated jigs (recommend SVD-185, SVS-50, and SVD-110) and that would bring the total investment to around two hundred fifty bucks. That's a bit more than other setups (like the Wolverine) that can effectively provide the same function with a dry grinder. But the BGM-100 really shines for someone who also owns (or plans to own) a Tormek, where the jigs (and their cost) can be interchanged between the Tormek and the dry grinder.

sehr gutes Produkt.
