Merryhill Mushrooms - Ready Growing Grow Your Own Fresh Chestnut Mushroom kit (Single Chestnut)

This is the best mushroom kit I have bought so far; it is far superior to the often disappointing wait and hope variety of kits that I have routinely purchased in local garden centres in the past.The kit arrived quickly, as promised, with the mushrooms already just starting to grow. Within 5 days I was harvesting my own button mushrooms and after thinning them out allowed some of the remaining chestnut mushrooms to grow to a larger size. I have now moved the kit to the coolest part of the house and the mushrooms just keep on coming, just getting ready for my third harvest in nearly 3 weeks. I am absolutely amazed and delighted.I contacted the seller several times and always received prompt, courteous and very helpful replies from the proprietor.I have highly recommended this product and seller to my friends and family, and will be purchasing more of the mushroom kits in the near future; still got a few weeks cropping from this one to come :-) Thank you very much indeed: an excellent product at an excellent price.

First crop, things looked great - lots of decent-sized mushrooms, very tasty, went down nicely with steak, chips and fried with garlic!Second crop, not so good... four or five worth the trouble of cooking. Still, tasted nice.Third crop, looks like we'll get one mushroom and a couple of buttons.All in all, it was a fun experiment and worth trying if you fancy it. You certainly can't get fresher than this, but you're paying for the experience - you could buy approximately 4Kg of mushrooms from a supermarket for the same price.

Yes a good bit of fun but not cost effective, we got about 20 altogether I suppose, the thing I was surprised about was that they didn’t taste any better - picking then eating straight away, if anything they were virtually tasteless whereas Chestnut Mushrooms are usually very tasty and we eat masses of them fr9m the supermarket. When you think it has finished you may be tempted to throw it away but no wait and keep watering and some more will appear. Wouldn’t buy again.

Wasn't expecting much, since I tend to have brown thumbs. However, I bought two, got them home on Monday, put them in a small west facing window, pulled their plastic socks all the way up, and gave them a misting from a water bottle whenever I passed by - all per the clear instructions. They went nuts! By Sat I was forced into a big mushroom omelette because otherwise I worried it would go to waste - I had a huge omelette but only used half the crop, so I guess another omelette is in my near future. What else can you do with an excess of mushrooms?I'm interested in trying my hand at mushroom cultivation from scratch, so today I started by making a "shotgun fruiting chamber", which I've now put these two guys inside. Basically a (very) simply prepared plastic container to maintain humidity - Google has details. We'll see how they like the place.

Review update:A bit pricey and arrived without its lid, which leads me to believe that could get contaminated in transit.Added to that I got three measly mushrooms from it and now it looks like it’s going to die. I am seriously disappointed at that price I could have bought enough chestnuts to choke a donkey.- substrate seems good and arrived in a timely manner.- didn’t come with a misting bottle at that price it would have been a nice touch.- it is definitely alive, it already arrived fruiting.- growth is already beautiful to watch hence but has since all died for some strange reason.- I suggest creating a mini terrarium out of the plastic bag with paper clips. This is unnecessary but it just protects the fruit from dehydration and potential mould attack.I would like a full refund.

I bought this for a friend who was delighted with the rapid growth of mushrooms and some excellent crops. There are instructions, but they are hidden away between the box and the inner bag. In the right conditions they grow like... mushrooms! If you like mushrooms, they are better when very fresh - and that's something you can guarantee with a kit like this. Probably not as cheap as buying mushrooms from the supermarket, but definitely tastier.

I am really happy with these mushrooms. I have had 2 good crops and there are still more coming after a couple of weeks. The only problem was in the delivery. The driver left them with a neighbour but left no card. I had to chase and chase and a week after it was delivered I finally found out my neighbour had them.I collected them and they were growing so much the box was deformed and expanding out. My neighbour said that the box seemed to be changing and growing. I didn't tell her why and that it was mushrooms. If she took my parcel she should have come round to tell me.But yes, great, fresh mushrooms, will buy again.

We enjoyed the mushrooms for the first few flushes. The taste of really fresh mushrooms is great. Then they seemed to stop growing as well - perhaps we weren't looking after them properly. Ended up getting fruit flies and having to be let go :-(We may try again
