Great artist makes it look easy!
I love Civardi’s art work and having already purchased some of his books I saw this on Amazon. It was second hand and very cheap but in good condition. On page 22 of this index there are details of his book “Drawing, A Complete guide” and I realised after I bought this book that it is, in fact, one of the chapters in the main book. In fact all his chapters are sold as separate books, the difference being the separate books are A4 size, while the main volume is A5. It’s 64 pages like most of his other books and takes you through the principles of chiaroscuro. The book includes some cast drawing and really focuses on shading techniques. I like it.

Good value with plenty of examples
I have a number of the artist books, they provide a large number of drawings which you feel able to try to copy for yourself. The books are relatively inexpensive so try one! Having a variety of achievable examples is better than looking at masterpieces which seem utterly unobtainable. Towards the end of his books he does show you what he is capable of and maybe what you could achieve with time.

Beautiful illustrations
This is a real artists book with illustrations that are exquisite. From fruit to flowers to portraits. Many of the illustrations have been simplified to show light and shade which is so helpful when learning about tone etc.

Excellent drawings !
Out of all the tutorial books I've seen if I were to pick one instructor it would be this guy. It is simple and to the point. Civardi has a real talent for clearly communicating the message.

A good practice book
This book goes into good technical terms and breaks down the concept of chiaroscuro (light and dark) very well. It also has a pretty good selection of various exercises that you can work on to get a feel for how to integrate shadow and light into your own artwork. While it mostly emphasizes pencil work (as that's the easiest for beginners), you can easily transfer the knowledge over to tonal values in pen hatching or painting.A good, solid book for any kind of artist that uses a pen, brush or pencil. Good for blenders in color pencil, too, even though it's not in color. You just transfer the basic concept to your preferred medium.

Informational
This is a very nice reference to light and dark explanation. Dry reading but accurate. Worth the money helped me improve.
