good, but not a new book
This is a compilation of selected chapters from a few of John Gierach's past books. Type is small, but it is a good read, or, for me, a review. Gierach's books are excellent. He travels and writes about fly fishing for a variety of species in interesting places. He majored in philosophy in college and it often shows in his writing. Like so many others, I enjoy his books very much.

John Gierach. If your familiar with him you'll appreciate it like any others you've read.

Great book
Awesome book, if you fish there is no question you will love this book. Even if you don't fish, there is some great humor in this book

Great Read
Thoroughly engrossing stories. They cover a myriad of fishing scenes. The author’s accounts of his fishing experiences are very entertaining. Every fisherman should enjoy this book.

Great Stories, but.......
I am a BIG John Gierach fan, so this review does not reflect my feelngs abiut the actual writing. What I am unhappy with is that this book is six of his books crammed unnecessarily and awkwardly into one with print so small It's even uncomfortable with glasses on. Surprised JG, being one of "us", would agree to this packaging. The product description nor the book cover explains what you are getting. I already own 4 of the six books in it. I don't see how this even makes smart business sense to a package like this.

Another fine title from John Gierach
Great writing has always been a pleasurable sidebar to the pursuit of fly fishing and John Gierach is another fine example of the writers that supply that text. My only knock on this book is that it is made up of chapters from previous books which were worth rereading but I already owned half of the stories in other books and now I'll wind up buying other collections that contain stories contained in this volume. Gierach is obviously a knowledgable angler, with fine sensibilities and sensitivities, a clever and dry wit and he's a very crafty writer. A real pleasure.

Great collection of Gierach's work
This was a great collection of Gierach's essays from some of his previous books. As always, they were a very enjoyable read, and not just for the flyfishing material. This would be a perfect introduction to John Gierach for anyone who loves flyfishing, the outdoors, or just some good writing about a subject that the author clearly loves. If you are buying as a gift, note that the essays are taken from six of his older books. It didn't stop me from appreciating the gift, even though I had already read three of the others!

Once Again
Once again, Gierach is at his very best. Few story tellers are as thoughtful and funny as he is, and fewer less are able to impart wisdom and wit.

Great for the newcomer to Gierach but it is existing work
I've given it three stars because I was disappointed find my worst fears realised - this "treasury" is not new work but a collection of 40 of John's best from six of his published books. Don't buy it therefore, in the hope of fresh thoughts from the master because if you are a Gierach devotee you'll have read it all before and it wouldn't deserve Gierach's usual five stars because he shouldn't get them twice. However for those fortunate enough to be newcomers... this book will be a happy and five star introduction to his style. When do we get the next real new one, John?

Love all his books.
I enjoy all John Gierach’s books. I don’t always agree with everything he says but generally agree with his outlook on fly fishing. I’ve got several of his books now and I’ve loved reading all of them.
