Excellent Value CPL filter for GoPro Hero 5/6 (and more) 📷🕶️😎👍
In this review, I will share my unbiased opinion on the AmazonBasics Circular Polarizer Filter (CPL) - 52 mm for GoPro HERO 5/6 (and any 52mm filter threaded lenses). =====QUICK OVERVIEW===== I LIKED + Affordable price / great value + Good build quality + Easy to apply and remove + Easy to operate with the right balance of resistance vs smoothness + Good solution to protect your lens from scratches + Good performance without impacting picture quality too much + Quick delivery I WISHED - They included at least a soft travel pouch (I am being a bit picky here) ======================= INTRO 🗣️ Back in July 2018, I finally decided to go ahead and purchase a GoPro Hero 6. I also owned a YI 4K action camera that I barely used. In addition to the device, I purchased over 20 accessories to review on Amazon UK in order to help you decide if they are worth buying for your own needs. Here, I am aiming to confirm if this CPL filter is a good option to improve your photos and video footage. CONTEXT 💰 I bought this filter in July 2018. This item had about 250 customer reviews and an aggregated star-ratings of 4.2. I paid £9.49. To test this filter on my GoPro Hero 6, I used an excellent metal case from SHOOT also available on Amazon: http://amzn.eu/0AtKJat. DELIVERY 🚚 As usual, the item was well-packed and it was delivered quickly via amazon Prime. BOX 📦 In typical AmazonBasics style, the packaging is pretty basic but the lens comes in a sturdy plastic box which does the job. There is nothing but the lens, so no instructions and no travel pouch. DESIGN ⌚ The round shape filter is super light and feels like it is constructed well. It looks sleek, but I am not sure how durable the filter will proved to be on the road though. For the price it is totally satisfactory. FEATURES ✅ The sole purpose of this filter is to help you “eliminates harmful reflections / glare, improves clarity and expressiveness”. To accomplish that feat, you have to operate the circular dial to minimise or heightened the amount of reflection or contrast of your images or video footage. I am delighted to report that the dial is a pleasure to use with the right level of resistance and smoothness. CONCLUSION ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Based on my brief testing, I can highly recommend this inexpensive CPL filter. I did notice some improvements while dealing with annoying light reflections, without significantly lowering the overall image quality. If you are looking for an inexpensive CPL filter solution for your GoPro 5 or 6, I invite to also check the excellent UV / CPL filter bundle from Neewer (http://amzn.eu/d3HmCZW) which comes with two native filter adapters for virtually the same price as the filter reviewed here… 🙏 I bought this product myself, so thank you for reading my unbiased review and checking my photo coverage! 🙏

Works great! Just need some sun ☀️
I really like this filter, it’s great if you want to remove light reflecting on water, just rotate the end of the filter and it’s gone! Very cool. And I’ve been trying it out in the sunshine and it works well, really makes a difference to you images, but unfortunately only if I’m the right direction away from the sun. The 55mm fits on my lumix fz82 lens perfectly, but unfortunately the lens cap doesn’t go on very well, it doesn’t sit far enough inside the filter to clip on properly so if knocked it can fall off, it has less thread on it that it should have. Also the box for this filter is deeper than the one for the UV filter, I was hoping I could just use the one box for both filters when swapping them over, but I can’t and might be a bit of a problem if you don’t have a big enough camera bag to but them both in. A bit annoying, I wish the cases were round and less bulky. But I leave this filter on most of the time anyway. Great filter for the price!

Overall good but has a major drawback
This filter is a good choice if you're looking for an affordable option for taking occasional photos. It works well with lenses that have a focal length of 18mm or more, and it's made of sturdy metal and glass. The filter screws onto the lens easily, and the adjustment ring is smooth to use. The polarizing effect doesn't make the image blurry or unclear. The filter comes with a plastic case that seems to be reliable protection. However, if you're planning to use it with a wide lens (16mm or less), you might experience some issues with the image quality. There is a weird bokeh on the corners, which can't be easily fixed without cropping the image. But if you don't need a wide angle, this filter is a great option. If you're a professional photographer, you might want to consider more expensive options like Hoya, Marumi, or Kenko.

Really good quality polarising lens, easy to use to reduce glare in photo. Very good value for money. Fits intended lens well. Twist to use and keep twisting to unscrew and remove.

It's cheap and it works!
Just received this polariser this morning and was unsure of what to expect, based on the price and handful of negative reviews. But after just a short play, I felt compelled to leave a positive review! There are probably thousands of different combinations of cameras and lenses you could have, and for all I know this polariser might work better with some than others. But in my case, it fits perfectly, is easy to attach and remove and accommodates the lens cap nicely. At the time of writing, it's raining and miserable outside and I don't really want to go out shooting landscapes today. But as a test, I took 3 pictures of my (dusty) windowsill: one without the filter, one with filter but with minimum intensity, and one with filter on maximum intensity. Camera settings were the same and I've reduced highlights/increased shadows equally for all shots. This is supposed to be a technical demonstration of how reflective glare can be reduced more than anything else. As you can see, the 'with filter' pics are darker and slightly warmer than 'without.' If you intend to make the filter a permanent fixture of your lens, you're going to have to make some adjustments to compensate for this. Nothing major though. What's important is that setting the filter to minimum has pretty much no effect beyond this, so if you want reflective surfaces to look reflective, you can make it so. But rotating the filter to maximum can have an incredibly noticeable effect on reflections, as you can see! The window sill actually looked a completely flat white in the 'maximum' picture until I adjusted the shadows and highlights. This completely unscientific test was conducted in my first 5 minutes of playing with the filter, but I'm confident in the results - it does exactly what you expect it to.

Very smooth action, great for overly blue shots, through car windows and cuts through glary water. Made of durable steel alloy with a very nice thread. Amazon basics aren't basement level, just really good unbranded gear.
