1 x 3" Wood Graining Comb Use With Scumble Glaze Wood Grain

Number three - The Mighty Oak!!!
I've done scumble psinting with brushes, nailbrushes, cardboard combs and such in wet varnish for years. Most of it's been very successful but tedious. Trying this gizmo out was a revelation. Idiotically simple/Only done a couple of test pieces on mdf which a visitor thought was natural wood.Biggest problem is getting a good base colour - what I really need is something that's basically the same colour as mdf which when glazed and scumbled should be perfect for tying my kitchen cabinets in with the natural wood fronts. The other thing - the pattern is a bit coarse, almost like it's more suitable for stage scenery painting than, say, furniture. I would _really_ like something like this at about half the scale for small-scale furniture pieces that are less mighty oak and more tight-grained and ornamental hardwoods. It's a lot more eco than devastating more rainforest and if done well, can look pretty close though it involves a certain amount of skill and patience. The tool as it is is definitely great for larger panels though, and makes the job easier and quicker. As a skinflint who wants something for nothing wherever possible, I'd have been delighted if all the options could have been accommodated at the price. However, I'd certainly buy a second, finer, tool if one were available.

Width limits grain effects
First time trying to produce a grain effect on a door. Effect would have been improved by having purchased a wider comb. After a suitable undercoat and one coat of light oak ‘varnish’ added A second coat at combed. After a few trial attempts was able to produce grain effect. Two bits of advice for other novices; keep to second coat light otherwise the comb floods . Secondly allow to partially dry then brush over with dryish brush to make the grain effect more subtle. In summary, the comb works but best for narrower timbers.

Too small
Not as big as it appears to be , so bit disappointed, won't use it !!

As described
Great tool for creating a wood grain effect with varnish and paints.....smaller than I expected but still worked well. The top fits on 2 ways giving a choice of effect. The top does keep slipping off if you're not careful hence 4 stars but done what I wanted. Good delivery. Happy customer.

Really works
I was so pleased at how well this works, practise first to get the finish you want. I looked at tube videos. Makes my MDF look good

Comb has both a serrated edge and a patterned surface and I found it quite easy to vary the grain effect after a few practices
Very prompt service and item arrived with helpful printed instructions on how to achieve a wood grain finish. Handle has to be fitted into the comb and I had difficulty getting it to stay in place at first but eventually it seemed to hold. Comb has both a serrated edge and a patterned surface and I found it quite easy to vary the grain effect after a few practices. (If you're new to paint effects there are also several 'how to' videos online which I found were useful). Very pleased with the results.

More instruction needed
Didn’t find it very easy to use but don’t think I was doing it right
