Very impressive and thorough
Almost perfection in covering the broad history of architecture. It hits all the right notes with both pictures/graphics and the smartly written copy. It will definitely raise your IQ on the subject. A joy to read.I also want to add that this is the second book I have bought by the publisher in their topic series. And I can't say enough good things about their book on Design as well.

Dreaming on a cold January night
Library book. No purchase. DK/Smithsonian book. So it has to be a 5. So many beautiful places to see and visit. Great descriptions of many different styles of architecture and explanations as to why that style was used. So glad so much of it was so well built that we can still enjoy it in the 21st century. The glass section really impressed me. And the use of steel opening up so many opportunities when it comes to architecture. Great book. Hard to put down.

Nothing beats a good book!
This is an encyclopaedia all about architecture, from the earliest days right up to the present. This is the kind of book nobody does better than DK, it really is a treat to behold. It is a large format book (A4) with a hard cover and 440 high quality pages of colour images and text. The book is set out in a logical format, starting out with information and stunning images of the first dwellings of man from 10,000 BCE then working carefully through the materials used as man became more adept at building his own shelter rather than occupying caves that he found. This book is the perfect coffee table companion, easy to pick up and spend a few minutes enriching your soul, it will amaze you in its scope of the subject as well as its detail.I am very interested in history and architecture, at nearly 60 years of age I am lucky enough to be able to say I have visited some of the locations in Egypt & Turkey, as well as many closer to home all beautifully photographed in this book.I know the answer to every question is on a small screen in seconds these days but nothing beats the feeling of holding a real book, organised in an authoritative logical manner on such a detailed subject. If you have a genuine interest in architecture or the history of mans progress in this area I would absolutely recommend this book.Happy to help!

Brimming with architecture from 300 CE to the present era.
If you are a fan of architecture, learning about the past and appreciation of some wonderful buildings this is quite literally a mini library. The book itself goes from 300CE skipping through 1000 years of historical architectural in the first few chapters and then slowing down from the 1700's to present for the rest of the chapters.DK is one of those that I have grown up and used many times and always found them to be very informative. There are little nuggets of details that really work for this book. The pages, text and the graphics are done really well. The book is by no means a small one and quite weighty, it's bound very well in the hardback version. It's not going to have every single piece of architecture but does really well on content and coverage.Price was around £25 at the time. It's given RRP is listed at £35 (back of the book).

Deepens appreciation for architectural achievements
The journey from ancient structures to contemporary skyscrapers has been a revelation, highlighting the symbiosis between human aspiration and technological advancement. The visuals are stunning, making it easy to spend hours absorbed in the details of iconic buildings. What stands out is the way it contextualizes architectural achievements within the fabric of societal shifts, offering a deeper appreciation for the buildings we often take for granted. This book is not just for students of architecture but anyone with a curiosity about the spaces we inhabit.
