Works Pretty Well
I like it- it works nice- hard though to figure out the angle- they say the bottom angle is 15* already- so have to add that to whatever you set top runner to- but i checked my device with leveling app, and it said bottom part was only about 9*- so i don't know if the app is off or the device is different than others? I checked the app to something known to be level, was only 2 degrees diff. Anyways- I went by the claimed angle of 15*, then added 3* to make it 18, but wow- it was so low it was scraping on plate that holds the knife- Something doesn't seem right- I put the arm up higher, which by the calculations would have made it about 25*, and it put a pretty good angle on the blade- got it super sharp- The stones though that come with the device are pretty soft it seems- Especially the 600 one. Seems much softer than other 600 grit stones i own- All in all though, it's a great sharpening device,. I like it better than lansky as the stones are larger, which makes working the blade easier. The stones are cheap enough though to replace every few years- I also bought diamond ones- to i do the grinding with the diamond 600 instead-

Good, but finicky and low quality stones
I'm pretty new to sharpening with stones so my experience is limited. I tried using a flat whetstone but couldn't keep the angle consistent enough - some knives sharpened better than others. It takes a lot of practice to get good at it and most people don't have that time. I just want to sharpen knives once a month or so. So I bought this. So far this thing seems to work as well as you'd expect. Setup is a little finicky, especially trying to get the angle right. I wish there was some kind of built in gauge, using the cell phone with an angle app works but is a little awkward with larger phones. The nut that tightens the jig to the rod won't tighten well by hand - it need pliers to be tight enough to prevent slipping. It can be replaced, I'll have to find one from the hardware store that fits, preferably either winged or hex. It also doesn't need to be fixed as long as you fix the locking piece below it, keeping it loose allows for better jig articulation but higher risk of moving it off angle. Once set up it works mostly intuitively, though it will take practice to get the push/pull strokes smooth and even. The included stones are clearly low quality and will abrade really quickly. They also seem coarser than I would expect for the rating, though I'm no expert here. I'm going to try and find some decent aftermarket diamond plates to use. It looks like the EZE-lap SF series will fit, and they're affordable at $15-20 each. There are cheaper ones out there but they look sketchy. I'll update this review accordingly. With the new Work Sharp Precision device coming in around $50, this jig, while a good value, isn't as good as it once was. However the work sharp is more proprietary whereas this one allows for more modification and stone/plate options (so far).

For less than $63 this thing is a winner!
I make M.A.C.K (Machine Assisted Custom Knives). I've been using the Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker system since the mid 2000's. I was looking for an inexpensive system that would give similar results to the Sharpmaker in less time. I purchased the 009 over the 008 because of the steel guide bearing, stone thickness compensator and the split holding clamp and added the Ruixin 8 pc diamond stone set. Diamond stone breakin notes: Sharpen 8-10 junk knives to allow the stones to smooth out to their true grit ratings. The diamonds are very aggressive when new. Know that its not unusual for plated diamond stones to shed diamond dust during the breakin period. Use only light pressure when using plated stones or you run the risk of gouging the plating and ruining you diamond plates. Creating the edge bevels: I start my edge bevels on a #220 grit belt on my grinder and the move to the 009 starting with the #500 diamond and progress to the #3000 diamond. I finish off the edge with a strop i made by bonding a piece of leather to the #120 wet stone that came with the 009. I load the strop with 5 micron Gunny Juice. This system works well and will give ANYONE the ability to achieve consistent free hair cutting results.

This gets my pocket knife very sharp. I like it. I’ve done a kitchen knife too.

Mods needed .
It's a great concept, but mediocre execution!! Does not hold knife securely, and as a result it mars the blade up! In addition to that, the angle was not the same on either side of the knife clamp! Then there is the Pivot. A cheap nylon material that wears to quickly. So I ordered the upgraded part, works perfectly. So in short, with a little time, money and creativity you to can have a tite little fixed angle sharpening system. But out of the box, not so much!!!

Aggravating yo
Does not do pocket, fillet, boning or other thinner bladed knives. Does larger knives okay. My old Smith's from the 90s this was to replace still does a better job with cracked stones. Stones are all soft and wear down quickly. Set up is a pain in the butt, would recommend to give to someone who you want them to think you were being nice but you really just want to aggravate.

I have used this for a couple of years. Works on carbon steel and stainless steel. Knives are razor sharp. Helps correct damage from other sharpeners.

Es muy práctico, una vez que se establece el ángulo para trabajar, es fácil y rápido el afilado.

Good kit and handy box to keep it all in. Was missing the extra stones, but Amazon fixed, reimbursed.

Perfect for resharpening all your old and/or cheaper knives. Well designed and constructed from quality metal materials at an economical price. Includes a set of sharpening stones of various grits, and incorporates a variable-depth clamp for table or desktop edge mounting. (I would also recommend purchasing a $20 digital angle/degree meter in order to accurately set different blade edge grinding angles.)

It is as described. Not the best on the market, but also nowhere near the price. Good value for what it costs.
