bought to replace broken equivalent i borrowed, this too broke in 20 mins
Don't buy this. I recently renovated a house. I borrowed a silverline SDS hammer drill, the box cutter and masonary circular cutter. on both, the orientation pin sheared off. I bought replacements for my friend, but used before giving back, these too snapped. The drill no longer works either. In place i bought a titan SDS hammer drill and associated parts. This works so well.

Took a long time to arrive and rather disapointing when it did
Wanted this to fit some new light switches, while doing as little damage as possible to the wall decoration. However took over ten days to arrive, from Amazon EU S.a.r.L. and when it finally arrived and I tried to use it, as a fairly experience DIYer, the tool was pretty useless, despite having pre-drilled small holes around the periphery of the square to make it easier. I had also hoped this would reduce chipping of the plaster around the hole, to minimise redecoration, but it didn't achieve that either. To be fair, it was hard brick, of a previously exterior Victorian wall, and my SDS drill is not that powerful. It might work much better on softer interior block walls, or with a more powerful SDS drill. In the end I went back to the SDS chisel, which soon finished the job, though not with such a neat finish as I had hoped, but plenty of filler soon fixed that. For me it was £18 down the drain, but that was a lot less than calling out the electrician, who's last visit, for a few minor jobs, cost £180. It was worth a try and I will put it down to experience, put it in the spare tool box, and it may come in for a future project on a softer wall, or to lend to someone with softer walls, or with a more powerful SDS drill.

Worked for me
I have read the other reviewers rating and thought I'd jump to the defence of this tool. I've only used it a few times but it worked pretty well for me, getting better the more I used it and got used to it. If you do buy this make sure you also buy the circular cutter. I drilled a 6mm pilot hole first, then used the circular cutter then this box cutter. It worked fine for diy but I couldn't comment on how good this would be for regular professional use.

Great tool for tidy boxes
Great tool for cutting back boxes in brick or block. You need the matching rotary cutter to hog out the middle though.

Brilliant square cutter
I had very surface mounted electric sockets in the rooms in the ground floor of my house when I moved in so temporarily fitted quite a few extra sockets but mounted them on the surface until I had time to decorate these rooms. So when I came to start on my living room I needed to recess six new double sockets. So bought three items this large drill bit and both a single a double square socket cutters. This drill bit cut most of the area of the sockets brilliantly.

Silverline 868742 Square Box Cutter
I ordered this to do my single sockets, but taking it out of the box, one side of the cutter was all missing, so i sent it back for a replacement, when the replacement turned up, I took that out of the box and that was as bad. So I wouldn't bother buying this. I always thought silverline tools were not bad for the price, quite frankly they have really gone down hill, specially if they think this tool is good to sale.. complete rubbish and I will be sending the replacement back as well
