Hidden filter
Although it can't be seen, the filter is buried (up to a certain point) in the flower bed behind the pond. This was easy to install, plenty of hose and cable length. Only thing, it didn't come with a plug, so we had to go and buy one, unless it was to be hardwired into the electrics. Other than thay, fantastic filter for a lovely coy pond!

Great piece of equipment
Our pond had become really bad since we last had a similar filter but is gradually clearing. Its easy to clean - just turn the handle and all the dirty water comes gushing out. We are still workng on the final clean and in some ways I wish I had bought a bigger model but I am sure it will clear eventually - getting there but I will only be happy when I can see right to the bottom of the pond.

Long term review
I purchased this kit in 2017. It runs a water feature consisting of two small ponds at different levels in the garden, linked by a small brook. Overall the whole kit performed well. The pump has been running 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 4 years and hasnt missed a beat. Its begining to wear out now I think but thats not surprising considering how much use its had. The filter has also worked well however I have had a few problems with it. The handle used to turn the foam filters for cleaning broke in the first year where it fits onto the top of the body of the filter. Managed to repair it with epoxy resin and a small pipe clamp to hold everything in place and it worked fine for the next 3 years. I have replaced the UV lamps a couple of times and this was a little awkward and I found the fittings inside the lamp holder that hold the bulb in place had disintegrated after about 2 or 3 years of use (possibly from exposure to UV light). I opened up the unit today for cleaning and found that the internal support that holds the rotating foam filters had broken and the foam filters themselves were damaged. The filter was however still working. The overall condition of the filter now means it has to be replaced. 4 1/2 years doesnt seem too bad for a life span. Overall I was moderately happy with the filter. It was easy to clean by turning the handle every couple of weeks and it worked well at keeping the water clean and the fish seem happy. Even had some fish breeding in the pond! My thoughts are that its well designed and works quite well but its not that well made. Materials used to make this unit are only just strong enough and the broken rotating cleaning handle could have put the whole unit out of commission if I hadnt found a way to fix it. By being careful with it and repairing where possible it has survived and done its job. A bit more care in manufacturing and use of better and stronger materials would make a huge difference. One final point is that the filter is quite noisy, it gurgles quite a lot possibly due to air locks in the system. I was able to reduce this by tilting the filter to remove air from the system but it comes back quite quickly. Might be something specific to my particular setup but the gurgling can be quite annoying on a quite sunny day when sitting by the pond. Im now having to replace the filter and the pump. Would I buy the same units again? Yes for the pump as its worked well and does the job. No for the filter as its just not well enough made and not strong enough for its purpose. If your comfortable doing repairs and keeping everything maintained then its probably OK but to me it feels that an average user who doesnt want to jury rig repairs might well find it doesnt last much longer than 18 months or so

Works well...eventually.
Arrived with already blown UV, took two weeks to replace after severe pushing, second UV blew within days, replaced faster, before blowing third just days later, UV replaced again and overheating UV holder replaced. Finally it is functioning & admittedly now functioning very well. If you are prepared to push customer service hard if faulty, then this is, despite faults, a good buy. Noise: Now there are a lot of people speaking of noise. I use mine for an 1,000L pond indoors for my near 7 foot lizard. There was a LOT of noise, gurgling, rattling etc, very loud. I figured out how to quieten it though. The outlet hose connector for water return to the pond contains a small orange impeller/turbine to show at a glance that the water is flowing. For a whisper-quiet, smooth running filter just remove the orange impeller in the connector. Literally ALL the orange impeller does is spin to let you know water is moving through the pipe...nothing else, it is NOT needed at all for any functionality. When it has run in and functions correctly, it is great for the price, strong flow rate though it would be helpful to add a feature as standard to allow control over flow rates from the pump to the filter. It pumps two metres up into the filter from the pond and then returns, so good power. Assembly is fairly standard, not that tricky. Slime, algae, nitrates, bacteria: Thanks to the non-functional UV, slime and algae blossomed in the pond, you could scoop it with your fingers for a few weeks. nitrates and harmful bacteria exploded. This would be where flow control from the pump would have been handy...along with a functional UV and additional filtration media. How I resolved this was to add three fluval activated charcoal bags to the bottom of the filter to remove the nitrates, thus knock on to reduce harmful bacteria and with a functional UV finally removing the algae and slime and fewer nitrates to feed those, the pond cleared and all became well. Now it is probably clean enough to drink. I tried to post some pics but unfortunately Amazon won't let me.
