![Blade Runner [4K UHD] [Blu-ray] [2017] [Region Free]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51SAAdQQFCL.jpg)

Extended version of Ridley Scott's cult sci-fi classic. In LA in 2019, ex-cop Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is hired to track down and kill a group of androids, known as replicants, who have escaped from a satellite colony and travelled to Earth illegally. As two of the AWOL replicants (Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah) seek refuge in a geneticist's house, Deckard takes his investigation to their makers, the Tyrell Corporation, where he falls in love with Rachael (Sean Young), herself an android, but with a memory chip that convinces her she is human. Review: Blade Runner Blu Ray- a good Blu Ray transfer! - I won't review or ramble on about the movies, it has been 35 years since the original Blade Runner, and most know what the movies are about. I will comment, however, about the quality of the Blu Ray transfer of the movie - in Blu Ray, it is very clear and a nice upgrade from the DD - I was impressed by how crisp, clear the Blu Ray transfer was. I viewed it on a 65" Panasonic VT60 Plasma, and it was very nice. Not all Blu Ray transfers of older movies fare as well. Note this movie was shot in 2:35:1, so the transfer didn't do anything about the "watch band" appearance on your 16x9 screen :-( but hey, that is a common thing. I really like the 1:85:1 Anamorphic widescreen format for home movies but we can't have it all! What is a bonus is that after almost 35 years, I STILL enjoy the movie. And more importantly, so do my 18 year old boys - which says a lot about how well done this movie was - it is very entertaining. I saw the original first movie in the theaters when it first came out, and I am still entertained from beginning to end. So here we have a timeless movie which is still entertaining today, and one where the Blu Ray transfer allows you to watch it in crystal clear HD. Awesome. 5 stars all the way!!! Thanks for reading. Review: Blade Runner....... a classic - Excellent!!! Prestivo facilitated the purchase from France!! Denis from prestivo supervised the delivery. And stayed in contact throughout the delivery process. Delivery came before delivery window. The movie is an absolute classic. If it was released as new in 2017 it would be hailed as a timeless classic. Can't wait for the sequel.

The final cut (?) of a great film.
I had no problem playing this BD Feature disk, with 4 commentaries. I'm not sure the bit of extra unicorn footage makes a better film, but it is a beautiful presentation. The second disk, the documentary, wouldn't play on my USA player. Some issue about the "color" which was weird. Honestly, this "new cut" really depends on how much you love the film. I've never much cared if Deckard is a replicant or not, I'm just glad the VO and happy ending are gone. Should you buy this? If you have the director's cut, I'd say you already have a great film. If you've watched the new cut on line, then you know what you're missing -- a few longer cuts. The script isn't changed. Be aware that the documentary, or either disk, are not not "region free".

Good reason to buy Blu-ray player
I waited 28 years for this! The Blu-ray "Final Cut" edition is worth every penny. Unless of course you just don't like "Blade Runner". The re-mastered 5.1 sound track it like I imagined it should have been in 1982. Fortunately, it was originaly recorded multichannel and mixed down to stereo for the theatrical realease. The video transfer to digital was directly from the negatives with the result that the Blu-ray is better than what you would have seen in the theater. One might be distracted by anachronisms: The setting is LA in 2019. There are no cell phones, iPhones, GPS devices and all the screens are CRT's that might have come from an Apple II. On the other hand by 2019 we're not likely to be emigrating off-world with our genetically manufactured puppets. For me it works to let this be an alternate/parralell universe scenario.

Great Version of this Film
Great version of Blade Runner. The other versions I have seen of this film (both in live broadcasts and earlier DVD releases) cannot match the quality of this version. And of course it is a very intriguing film and who can top Harrison Ford in this type of a role.

IMO the story still holds up pretty well, even today
Of course this Sci-Fi classic belongs in every fan's movie collection. IMO the story still holds up pretty well, even today. Something had given me the impression, this disk would feature or include the version with audio narration by Harrison's character. But such is not the case. Since I really like that version of the audio track, it's exclusion is my only complaint. Behind the scenes interviews indicate this is Ridley Scott's favorite version of the film. I suppose if only one version was to be released on this blu-ray, it's most logical to go with the one its creator prefers : )

Ridley Scott's Image of 2019, Remastered
I had only seen this movie once or twice and I don't remember it being this visually striking. Absolutely must-have BR for the science fiction junkie. This version brings the 80's classic, a true achievement of cinematography, up to modern HD spec. Nit pickers will notice some flaws but I think they did a terrific job of revitalizing this masterpiece. We probably won't see replicants or flying cars in the near future, but it's still fun to look at.

It definitely was worth getting for the second special feature disc alone. The sound and picture quality were NOTICEABLY better than my copy of Blade Runner: The Director's Cut.

Most people know the story of Blade Runner by now. It's one of the greatest movies ever. It wasn't a big sell when it came out but slowly became an all time science fiction classic and rightfully so. The movie was originally released in 1982 and was based on a story by Philip K. Dick. His 1968 novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? to be exact. It stars Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer in their best roles, features incredible music from Vangelis and was directed by the now legendary Ridley Scott. The story of Blade Runner is one that will be debated until the end of time. It's based on a Blade Runner called Deckard (Ford). He's charged without hunting down four replicants who have escaped their life as slaves and found their way to Earth. Their goal is to preserve the remaining life they have left and understand the emotional struggle as they grow closer to their inevitable doom. It's a story which appears very simple on the surface. But the more you dig into the film, the deeper it all becomes and is one of the more fascinating aspects of it. As I said above, I think it's easily Harrison Ford's best role. I love him as Indiana Jones and Han Solo, like every other nerd out there. But there's just something in Blade Runner that puts him above those other films. The same can be said for Rutger Hauer. I've seen him do some interesting movies and others that were down right terrible. But here, the man shines so bright that he actually steals the show from every other actor in the film. The other roles played by Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, Daryl Hannah etc are all very fascinating. It's like we're seeing only just a glimpse of what could have been so much more. But that's a part of the appeal of this film. It's not all what it seems. Some people might find the film to be incredibly dull and that's an opinion I can fully understand. This is by no means an action movie and is it very slow paced. It likes to take its time and do things at its own pace. It bothered me growing up, I can easily sympathise. But as my appreciation for more serious cinema grew, I found myself appreciating this film more. It's not just the acting or the story, but the love that went into the art. Everything from the sets, the vehicles, weapons, computers, music make for an incredibly mesmerising experience. This is all emphasised on this magnificent 4k pressing. The visual and audio elements are better here than they have been and it will should do nothing but stun anyone who sees it. The old bluray disc that I own was good, but this is a whole other level. The clarity and depth of the picture is breathe taking. The detail in all the large scale models, the effects work etc is extremely impressive. Especially for a film of its age. The 7.1 audio track is another highlight and something fans need to hear. If you've ever heard the Vangelis soundtrack, you'll know that it's a magnificent piece of work. But to hear this new mix of the film will really shock some. It's extremely clear, the tracks have been given this very spatial mix. Everything has a place, from the rain falling behind you to the spinners flying over your head. It's quite powerful but well worth having for those with surround sound systems. There's not much else to say about Blade Runner really. It's a classic, one that I would highly recommend to fans of science fiction and noir. It's been given a magnificent 4k transfer and couldn't be more of a must have purchase. Fans shouldn't even question it this purchase.
