Great book for beginners but paper/print a little weak.
Great book if you are learning to navigate a MacBook with the new OS High Sierra. I am normally a PC guy, but was able to obtain a great MacBook Pro from my wife. Since I want to keep up with technology, I am increasing my interests in the Mac field too. Frankly, I know some, but not very much. So, this book really comes in handy. It does a great job in covering most of the basic areas you'll be using in a Mac to begin with. Those are the positive comments. The only reason I didn't give this five stars was because of the "print" in the book. It looks like it was printed on newspaper print! The lettering is faint and it's very hard to read unless you are near a bright light. If you are in a fairly lit room, it is a bit hard to read it. I think they could have done a better job on paper selection, and the ink or print they used for the book. Other than that, it's a great primer to get started in learning to navigate your MacBook.

More of a Text Book than a Book for Dummies
I bought this book several months ago: so far it has been of zero help to me in transitioning from 30 years of using PCs (at both work and home) to becoming comfortable with a newly purchased MacBook. Initially I was disappointed by the book's excess verbiage and lack of the outline format and abundant diagrams that had been helpful to me with other Dummies books. I gave this book two stars and didn't return it assuming it would become helpful once I figured out the basics by trial and error. That has not been the case. I've noticed that an updated version of the book is now available, but I will not waste money on another of this author's misleadingly titled "MacBooks for dummies".

Written in a very easy to understand language, great gift for PC users.
Most importantly, this book is not written in technical language to confuse the novice. I have a lot of experience on PCs, this book helps me to translate my PC knowledge to Mac. Now I love Mac PCs also, thank to this book. The book is priced just right.

pretty cool, huh
Woohoo! I live in a house of PC users--as was I until I was given a macbook air. (I know, pretty cool, huh?) The problem is, I am not the most computer oriented person out there and my PC family members were refusing to lend a hand when I ran into issues. Can't print because I can't download the printers? My PC guy husband said "how do I know? It's an Apple! It probably wants you to massage it and whisper sweet nothings in it's ear and run out and buy it flowers and chocolate, or at least a wireless printer designed especially for it..." Nope, I whip out my book and fix the dang thing myself. Sweet. And that was only the first time I used the book. Chalk one more up for women smart enough to hunt down their own resources!

Wish I'd found this sooner!!!
Love this book! Have had my MacBook since 2013 and I'm still learning about all of its wonderful functions with this book!

sounded like a good idea
I have had this book for a while now, every time I try to use it for a go to reference, it's not helpful. t's easier to look for the answer on google

not for the computer illiterate
this book is not for the beginner and does not make things clear. It seems that one has to be computer literate to understand it.

Not for the latest MacBook Pro laptop.
Bought this book hoping it would help me use my first MacBook Pro. Mine uses Os Cortana and the book talks about High Sierra, so was. Dry disappointed. Didn’t know there would be different OS.

Perfect for the Technically Challenged
I was given a MacBook Air as a Christmas present. (Yes, lucky me!) As a technically challenged person at the best of times, I bought this book to help me from the transition between Microsoft windows to Apple Mac. I am an avid user of Apple products, IPhone, iPad, iPod and iWatch; but my children had reliably informed me that I wouldn’t be able to make the switch. How wrong they were!! This book certainly helped. Although, I did buy the Microsoft Office package, everything else, regarding the change over is going more swimmingly than I could have thought thanks to this clear and concise book. I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone thinking about buying it.

Fine, but
Purchased this as the hard copy I ordered failed to appear before I went on holiday (see review on that) and this was to be my holiday reading because as the name of the book suggests I felt I needed help in moving across from a windows laptop to a MacBook Air. The content is well written and informative. But for those of my generation who like to earmark pages, insert post it flags or turn page corners over for bits that are important to us the electronic book is not quite as useful as a hard copy. If you are happy with electronic books this is fine but for me paper pages are better!

It helps
Great Book but the Author does like to waffle on about things that maybe relevant to him so you have to skip those parts as it appears he likes to think some of his comments are witty but hey ho each to their own

Do not buy this if you want well presented information
I liked nothing. I dislike lack of how to, a glossary a decent index. The impertinent use of meaningless words eg - trooper, soldier, doggone and passel.Just look at page 88 'Improved Siri to the rescue' I wont repeat all the dozen or so lines which start 'Are you on an intimate basis with Siri.........' and carry on to tell nothing about what Siri does or how to getit to do it.My submitted star rating - 1, is the nearest You let me get to a negative rating

Completely useless
Complete guff! The author waffles on, in an attempt to be amusing. It falls short of A, humour and B being useful. If you want to know how to keep your mac clean then it's not bad for that.
