It works perfectly in a Mac M1
This dvd rom works nicely without any error in a Mac with M1 processor in case you wonder it. I have tried some others but this is the only one I have been to use it without any problem. It is perfect. After a little time, I want to leave here an extra info about it. For me works fine when recording at x4 speed. At x8 it failed and dvd was locked inside. NOTE: THERE IS NO WAY TO REMOVE A LOCKED DVD DISC FROM INSIDE BUT UNSCREWING PHYSICALLY but in my mac I used a virtual machine (parallels), I passed it to it and from there, in windows 11, I was able to remove the disc from inside with no problems. Or just try it in a windows pc.

Looks great, Works terribly
This was recommended as an ideal choice for Ripping CD's and as my new Mac did not include a DVD/CD drive it was a no brained for this price. Unfortunately though it really looks the part, It only worked for the odd disc. Everything else it would get stuck reading the disc and with no physical eject button I was forced to unplug and re plug it just to get the disc out. The last straw was spending 30 minutes trying to get a valuable (To me) album out of it as the tactics mentioned no longer worked. Avoid this and get a Asus disc drive. No problems reading my discs and no getting stuck 🙂

All works well
A good unit, does the job and is very similar to the Apple unit. Except this unit works with my laptop but the SuperDrive didn’t!!

Faulty on arrival, problem ejecting discs.
Initial impressions were quite good, it's a neat unit well packaged, and was performing well at ripping a cd. Until I tried to eject the disc. It made various whirring and grinding noise, but no disc appeared. After several futile attempts and just as I was starting to think I'd have to destroy the unit to get the disc, I tried turning the unit upside down and ejecting, which did the trick. Giving it 3 stars as faults can happen to anything, and I'm sure if you got a working unit you'd be perfectly satisfied. but it doesn't speak highly of the Quality Control.

Fine for my needs
Ordered Friday, delivered Saturday so no complaints there. I need an optical mainly for one purpose, which is to rip CDs I have bought so I have a digital copy in my library. Since I got my (USB-C only) MacBook I have used an adapter quite successfully but it started to get a bit unreliable so a replacement was required. This drive works perfectly well for my needs - it looks good (certainly better than my previous plastic one), has an unexpected travel case with adaptor and a neat (if short) cable. It worked first time and every time since as I caught up with recent CD purchases. I would recommend firstly because it works, secondly because it looks good and finally because at the price it is hardly a massive risk. I am very pleased with it.

The Ultimate Lesson in Buyer’s Remorse
Ah, the NOLYTH External CD Drive for Mac. I bought this little gem because I thought, "Why not revisit the golden era of physical media?" Little did I know, NOLYTH was about to teach me an unforgettable lesson in disappointment. Spoiler alert: it didn’t even work straight out of the box. And honestly, that was probably the high point of my experience with this thing. After finally convincing it to function, I thought I’d give it a spin—literally. Burned a disc, felt a momentary sense of accomplishment, and then... nothing. It refused to eject the disc. Just sitting there, smugly holding onto my data like it was trying to savor my misery. I had to actually Google "how to rescue hostage disc from NOLYTH," and trust me, none of the tips involved anything polite or simple. Spoiler: there’s a butter knife involved now. The build quality? Well, let's just say I've seen fast-food toys made with more integrity. Cheap plastic, flimsy cable, and a design that just screams "I might fall apart if you breathe too hard." The whole thing felt like it was cobbled together by someone who lost a bet. Seriously, this drive belongs in a museum dedicated to terrible ideas, right next to New Coke and the Titanic II. If you’re in the market for an external CD drive that works about as well as a screen door on a submarine, this is the one for you. Just don't say I didn't warn you when you end up with an expensive paperweight and a disc that’s trapped forever, much like your dreams of ever burning CDs again.

Does not work in Australia. Plugged in to my Macbook Pro, nothing. Tried to insert a CD, nothing.

I found it extremely difficult to change the region from 2 to 4 and had almost given up when I finally managed and it now works just fine. A simple option to select region would be a big improvement .

MacOS 15.4.1, no luck Win11, hit and miss, most CDROMs, CDs and DVDs are not accepted. Some will work after a few attempts. Nice alu case though
