These frozen cylinders (you could call then smaller diameter and taller than hockey pucks, but that doesn't flow off the tongue) are fed one at a time into the ice shaver with a plunger mechanism for constant pressure. First. How is the shaved ice? Delicious. Depending on what concoction you chose to freeze. The shaved ice comes out as a frozen inch or so wide tape that is tissue paper thin. This layers on top of itself into the bowl. When eating this, the feeling of the shaved ice melting on my tongue is wonderful. Frozen molds. One frozen cylinder makes 1 to 2 servings. Having a lot of pre-frozen molds is key if for a group. Usage: Figuring out how to detach, load, and reattach the big plastic cylinder can be confusing or challenging at first, but once done a few times, it is pretty simple. Once loaded, there is a power button to turn on the machine (long press) and same button starts and stops the machine. Once running, it will run until you stop it or until about 98% of the ice is shaved and then will automatically stop. While running, the shaved ice coming out will pile up in a shallow bowl provide and while back up to the machine if not paying attention. Cleaning is not so bad as long as you keep your fingers out of the inside of the plastic cylinder. How much do I like this? It is a lot of work for a small amount for shaved ice. And preparation ahead of time is a must. I like playing with mixes of what to freeze but find myself not doing this a lot because I need to think of it a day ahead. Overall... the machine works well. If you really like using this, get more molds.
