I wanted a pair of binoculars for watching wildlife on my property. The 10 power allows nice close up vision and the 42 helps see clearly during dusk. These are light weigh enough that they are easy for me to handle. They are great for my needs and I am very pleased. I also like that they are made at a well know factory in Germany. My research found that some of the other expensive brands are actually all or partly manufactured in China.
