This is an excellent book for the novice but has enough advanced stuff to make it interesting for those with experience. The author, Janet Pittman, covers the various types of hand and machine applique, the equipment and supplies you need, and gives several inspirational projects. The diagrams and photoqraphs are clear and almost self-explanatory. The instructions are also clear with lots of helpful tips which are highlighted for easy reference. The author explains so many ways of applique that I believe any sewer could find a method that they enjoy. A lot of thought has obviously gone into the presentation of the information - for instance the fonts used are easily legible and the book has an interior spinal binding, meaning that it lays flat when open. I had borrowed this book from a friend before I bought it. Having read it, I wanted to keep it!

It is a 5 star book about machine applique and just a few words about hand applique (2 stars). Unfortunately the book description did not say that clearly that is why my rate is 3 stars only. Lovely projects and easy instructions. Pretty advanced level but having some skills it is probably possible to find something for beginners.

Lovely explicit book. I bought a used copy and it is in like-new condition. Very pleased.

This books provides a great beginning to all the major styles of applique used today. Who knew there were so many ways to attach one piece of fabric to another? The instructions are clear, with plenty of informative material, but without becoming bogged down with "too much, too soon". The pictures really set this book apart in their relevance to the technique being shown, as well as their color and clarity. As I progress in learning the applique basics, I often find myself coming back to this book to review the special "tips" sections. It is one thing to read a description of what to do, but when you actually do the process you may find it is not as easy as it looks. These tips help out when you have a circle not quite round, too much material to turn under, etc. This book is a keeper!

Exactly what I was looking for because it tells the steps for appliquing, with several ways and methods of doing same for a beginner and just love the flower applique patterns for making a floral quilt and for practicing on is a PLUS. With the book being spiral bound, it made it easy for copying the floral patterns onto paper for patterns to use and to work with. Can also use and add these flowers to other sewing projects too.
