Good product, plants love it.
I’m trying to end my love/hate relationship with rockwool. I heard good things from a friend and decided to try this coir. The bocks are very convenient but didn’t expand as much as I thought and was finer cut/grind than I expected. I use it with hydroponic drip system 75/25 with perlite. That mix has worked out very well. I had to add screens to the pump and drain because bits of coir washed out of the pots, especially at first. At this point it works fine, now that the initial washout is over and screens are in place. I probably will go with a different medium for drip systems because of the washout mess, but would happily use it other types of hydroponics or aeroponics as a starter medium. Even though some of what I wrote seems negative, any issues were a result of my lack of understanding about the product. I went in hoping for something like rockwool, but safe and compostable. Coir is not that. I will happily use it again for some applications now that I know what to expect from the coir bricks. I don’t have enough experience with coir to recommend it vs other brands of coir. All I can say is my plants are thriving.

GREAT STUFF, won't be going back to potting soil anytime soon
I live in a tiny apartment in public housing. Carrying dirt home from a hardware store isn't really convenient; especially with wonky elevators! I tell you this stuff is GREAT. One brick fills a small pot, my plants are LOVING IT. I'm growing prickly pear, sweet potatoes & ginger and they are all thriving like you would not believe (I use Jobe's plant spikes too but even without the Jobe's the plants were doing quite well!). Yeah from now on I will only use this stuff, no reason to use dirt when this is available, and this stuff holds together nicely doesn't blow around out on the porch! I'm quite chuffed about this product.

Great for house plants
I use this for my house plants and it works really well. It holds more moisture and I just create my own mix from it

Great. Just be careful how much moisture you add
Used to make my own potting soil. Just be careful how much water you add it retains a lot more moisture than expected

Mix with potting soil
Comes as a small, solid brick which is easy to store. Then mix with potting soil by pre-soaking in a bucket of water until it crumbles readily. I find it prevents root rot and drainage.

Low expansion!
The bricks were so compact It was difficult for them to expand in water. Had to make multiple attempts with applying water and they did not still expand to its possible full size indicated.

This product helps keep your soil moist and loose, when mixed together with the soil. Compact enough to store or transport.

Product expands nicely into a loose growing medium. I found it needs considerable rinsing before I was happy to use it for hydroponic growing.

Didn't notice the expanded volume, but there's no weird smell, just reminiscent of coconut. I've been making my own potting mix from coir for a couple of years, just wet, mix with some perlite and add plant food. Unlike bags of moist potting mix, it doesn't come with a population of fungus gnats. Awesome stuff.

I'm very disappointed in this product. Don't waste your valuable time trying to work with this. I followed the instructions given in 'Ask Rufus". After the product was wet, I rinse it in a fine mesh colander more than the 5 times recommended as the water was not running clear. I am sure that a good portion of the product went down the drain. I didn't get the 2.25 gallons they advertised. Best to pay more for a lesser amount of Coco Coir that is ready to use without fear of your seedlings or your plants being ruined.
